Daily Dish: Anthony DeSilva Connection to EHL’s Eclipse - Junior Hockey News

Junior hockey’s version of a cockroach refuses to go away.

He’s still an advisor and still trying to get close to young boys. Despite a ban by SafeSport and USA Hockey. Tony DeSilva refuses to simply walk away.

So, what’s it really going to take? Over the summer, Maine Eclipse (Eastern Hockey League) Head Coach James Ryerse was spotted on the bench of DeSilva’s teams that competed at a Boston area showcase event.

Miraculously, many of those same players were able to transition to that Eastern Hockey League team. As a result, the Eclipse look like they will be competing for the title of being the worst team in league history. Through the first four games of the season the EHL Eclipse have tallied three goals while giving up 29. The Premier team has not done much better.

The really big question, why are Eastern Hockey League officials not demanding answers? Heck, where is USA Hockey in all of this. They need to stop deferring to SafeSport and grow a pair to protect these kids. I’m beyond tired of hearing excuses from Colorado Springs about why they can’t do anything.  When there is clearly an issue, USA Hockey needs to clearly take action.

I’ll say this without any reservation. This type of crap would never be happening under Dave Tyler’s watch.

Here’s what escapes me; why would a coach even talk to DeSilva, much less coach for him during the summer? Do they not really know what this guy is all about? What does his continued involvement in hockey tell us about the power behind SafeSport in general, aside from it proving to be little more than an expensive pacifier for victims?

I’m a hockey guy, not a behavioral science specialist. But even I know that it’s not a good idea for a drug addict to work at a pharmacy or an alcoholic to work at a liquor store. It’s never going to be a good idea for a pedophile to continue associating with kids.

Meanwhile, there seams to be an entire cross-section of enablers leaving the backdoor open for DeSilva to slime his way into the game. Rink owners, coaches, event organizers, and I’m afraid to say, even parents.

Here’s the really sad reality. DeSilva is going to mess with the wrong kid with a father that WILL take the law into his own hands. God knows I would.

**I've brought the three part DeSilva series back to the top of the news. You can find it in the site's feed or simply Google search "Anthony DeSilva." Please read that in order to really grasp what we are dealing with here.**
