It was another good week for the teams within the Blizzard organization. The NAHL’s St. Cloud Norsemen beat Austin 3-2 last Wednesday in their only game of the week. St. Cloud (13-20-0-1 – 25 pts) sit five points out of a playoff spot in the Central.  The NA3HL’s Willmar Warhawks went 1-1 in their final two home games over the weekend. They remain in the 3rd spot in the West. NA3HL’s Alexandria had a huge weekend beating New Ulm and Willmar both on the road with Colin Tushie scoring back to back Hat Tricks.
Norsemen Win Lone Game of the Week
St. Cloud, MN – Jack Suchy’s third period goal lifted the St. Cloud Norsemen over the Austin Bruins, 3-2, on Wednesday night.

The Bruins took the lead in the first period when Barrett Brooks found the back of the net. Shortly after, Brett Chorske directed a Ryan O’Neill pass into the back of the net to level the score.

Austin, again, took the lead in the second period with a Walter Zacher power-play goal before Brendan Kim scored his fifth of the season on a Norsemen power-play to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third, Chorske created a Bruins turnover and fed the puck to Jack Suchy who scored his sixth of the season, give the Norsemen the go-ahead goal.

With the win, the Norsemen improve to 13-20-1 and will take on the Austin Bruins on Monday, March 22nd at 7:00PM in St. Cloud. Mark Shelley will provide the Play-By-Play on the Lyon Sheet Metal & Heating Norsemen Network beginning at 6:55PM on HockeyTV.

Willmar Splits Final Home Weekend
The Warhawks hosted New Ulm and Alexandria over the weekend going 1-1 edging closer to securing the 3rd place slot in the West Division.

Friday night New Ulm could not match the Warhawks in a 4-1 win for Willmar. They battled New Ulm through a scoreless 1st period before breaking through with two goals in the 2nd period. Dylan Gajewski scored his 13th of the year a minute and a half in, off assists from Lewis Rowan and Isaiah Thomas. Kaleb Miller scored his 4th of the year with assists from Jonah Jangula and Elbridge DeKraai. New Ulm scored early in the 3rd but that was it as Willmar tacked on two more to seal the victory. Nate Cox scored his 1st of the season with assists from Jeremiah Konkel and Kaleb Miller. Then Alex Kupka got the empty netter, his 10th of the year with assists from Jack Willis and Brady O’Brien. Lukas Haugen made 25 saves for the victory. 

Sunday night the Warhawks hosted the Blizzard in their home finale. Despite outshooting the Blizzard 45-28 for the game, Willmar found themselves down 4-0 in the 3rd before Ben Luedtke scored his 2nd of the year off assists from Jack Willis and Alex Kupka. Then Dylan Gajewski cut the lead to 4-2 with about 8 minutes remaining. Isaiah Thomas assisted in Gajewski’s 14th of the year, but the Warhawks couldn’t complete the comeback falling 5-2. 

Willmar (19-18 – 38 pts) is in 3rd place in the West. They have 3 games remaining this week and all are on the road. Wednesday night at Granite City for a 7:30 pm start. Saturday they visit Alexandria for an 8:10 start and then Sunday they close out in New Ulm with a 7:10 puck drop. You can also catch all the action on

Blizzard Sweep Weekend Road Trip
Alexandria hit the road this weekend and beat New Ulm and Willmar for a road sweep.

Saturday Night they traveled to New Ulm and improved to 8-0 against the Steel with a 4-1 victory. After a scoreless 1st period, Colin Tushie got the Blizzard rolling with his 12th of the year at the 6:30 mark of the 2nd period. Nikolai Rajala then extended the Blizzard lead with his 6th of the season. Jack Taylor and Carter Rieland picked up the assists. Then Tushie scored again for a 3-0 Blizzard lead heading into the 3rd period. New Ulm scored early in the 3rd but Colin Tushie ended the night with an empty netter to complete the Hat Trick. Bailey Rosch stopped 37 of 38 to stay a perfect 6-0 against New Ulm this year.

On Sunday the Blizzard headed to Willmar for the last regular season visit and it was the Colin Tushie show again in a 5-2 victory. Austin McNeil scored the lone 1st period goal about halfway through. Cole Jacobs and Nolan Westra assisted on McNeil’s 10 of the season. Tushie and Westra extended the Blizzard lead to 3-0 after two periods. Tushie gave the Blizzard a 4-0 lead three minutes into the third before Willmar scored twice in a six minute span to cut the lead to 4-2. However, Colin Tushie put his stamp on the game and the weekend with a breakaway goal giving him back to back Hat Tricks. Tushie now has 17 goals on the year. Carter Rieland and Nolan Westra each had multi point games, and Atticus Kelly stopped 43 shots for the victory.

The Blizzard (16-18-1-1 – 34pts) close out the regular season this week with 4 games and an outside chance to catch Willmar for 3rd place in the West. They host New Ulm on March 24th, and 26th at 7:10 pm then host Willmar March 27th at 8:10 pm, before their last road game on Sunday March 28th against Granite City at 5 pm.
