By: Michael Moore,

This week the USHL Goalie of the Week is Akira Schmid of the Sioux City Musketeers.

This is the second time that Schmid has earned our “Of the Week” honor after winning it this same week back in 2019. This time he is with the Musketeers and he helped his team take down the Des Moines Buccaneers twice this week. The first win came on Friday where Akira was perfect. He stopped all 27 shots he faced. On Saturday, he encountered another 27 Buccaneer shots though he allowed two goals.  His boys up front were able to snag five goals securing Schmid’s second win for the week.

Akira’s statistics now stand at:

Akira Schmid(20) is a native of Bern Switzerland. His youth hockey was played with Langnau, SCL Tigers and the Swiss National team. This season he made the transition to North America and began play in the Canadian Juniors. After a brief stint with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL, Schmid played two games with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the NAHL before joining the Omaha Lancers. He was drafted in 2018, in the fifth round (#136 overall) by the New Jersey Devils (Unsigned).
