This week the Great Western Futures Super Camp USHL Goalie of the Week is Erik Portillo of the Dubuque fighting Saints. This is the first time Portillo has earned this honor.
On Friday, Erik started against the Youngstown Phantoms. Portillo led the way for his team by denying all but one of the 16 shots he encountered to secure the Saints win. His teammates pelted opposing netminder Dominic Basse with 32 shots and beat him four times. Dubuque won the contest, 4-1.
Portillo’s performance continued on in Saturday night’s rematch against the Phantoms. The Saints’ defense remained stingy allowing only 16 shots to reach Portillo. The shots that did get past the defense failed to get past Portillo. He stopped all 16 shots he faced. Again, his teammates held up their end of the game and scored six goals for the Saints in the shutout.
Erik Portillo ’s current statistics are:
W:17, L:4, T:0, SO:1, GAA:1.94, SV%:0.922
Erik Portillo (19) is an import from Göteborg, Sweden. He spent his youth playing with Partille HK and Frölunda HC. He was drafted in 2019, #5 overall by the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL Entry Draft. He was also drafted in the 2019 NHL draft in the 3rd round (#67 overall) by Buffalo Sabres. Like this week’s Player of the Week, Brendan Brisson, Portillo has committed to play for the University of Michigan beginning in 2020
