USHL hockey has returned after a 10-day break. Hopefully everyone had a good holiday and will have a good new year. For starters, the IIHF World Junior Championship is taking place in the Czech Republic and Team USA is currently leading Group B. In addition to the world tournament, there’s news to report on the BioSteel All-American Game.
Scheduled for 7 pm ET on Monday, January 20, at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, the BioSteel All-American game will feature some of the USHL’s best talent. On one team, 20 USHL players from eight different teams will take on USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program U-18 (NTDP). The best news is that it will be broadcast live on NHL Network!
Some other news from around the league involves the Stars adding defenseman Colby Enns. Enns was selected with the second pick in the 2019 USHL Dispersal Draft and will wear number eight for the team the rest of the year.
The RoughRiders and Musketeers agreed to a trade involving some of their premier players. Cedar Rapids acquired goalie Aidan Harper and right-wing forward Ryan Taylor in exchange for Robby Newton and a 2021 USHL Phase II Draft Pick. Harper will provide a much-needed boost for the RoughRiders end of season push while Newton will look to add to his 12 points on the year.
In another trade from around the league, the Stampede have sent defenseman Connor McGinnis to the Lancers for future considerations.
Heading up the Western Conference are the Black Hawks who hold a 12 point advantage over the Force and Stars with 41 points. Right behind the Stars are the Storm with 28 points and Lancers and Buccaneers who both have 27 points. In the Eastern Conference, the standings are a bit tighter. In first place and with a three-point lead are the Steel. Team USA follows with the Saints in third at 39 points. In a big jump to fourth place are the Gamblers and Phantoms who both have 26 points.
