Great Western Futures' USHL Player of the Week: Danil Gushchin - Junior Hockey News

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Danil Gushchin is WITHOUT A DOUBT this weeks’ Great Western Futures Super Camp USHL Player of the Week. As of October 7th, the NHL’s Central Scouting report has Gushchin pegged at a “B” rating. Typically, such a grade indicates that a player is likely to be selected in the second/third round of the upcoming NHL draft. After Friday night, the NHL Scouts might want to reconsider Danil’s grade.

Gushchin won the game for Muskegon. When I write, “He won the game”, I mean HE WON THE GAME. 5:28 into the game Guschin began the scoring with a goal on the Waterloo Black Hawks’ net-minder, Gabriel Carriere. The 7-1 Hawks would net the next three goals. With less than two minutes remaining in the game, Gushchin would score his second goal of the evening. He then would go on to complete his hat-trick, tying the game with FIVE SECONDS REMAINING. He’s done right? Impressive performance? NOT EVEN CLOSE.

After 2:41 played in overtime, Gushchin took a feed from David Gucciardi in the neutral zone. He carried the puck into the offensive zone where he stick-handled between his legs to misdirect the on-coming defender. He then cut across the top of the crease and beat Carriere on his glove side!

The Lumberjacks took down the Black Hawks with a come-from-behind victory, 4-3. ALL FOUR GOALS belonged to Gushchin. WOW!

Danil Gushchin (17) is a native of Yekaterinburg, Russia. The forward played his youth hockey with CSKA Moskva. He has also played with the Russian National Junior team. In 2017 Danil won the Russia U17 Championship, in 2018 he won the U17 WHC Gold and this year he took home the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Gold Medal. He was drafted in 2019, first (#7 overall) by the Regina Pats to play in the CHL but refused in order to stay in the USHL.
