It was announced on March 26th that the Prince George Cougars and the Edmonton Oil Kings will play a series of exhibition games in Dawson Creek at the Encana Events Centre. Spectra Venue Management along with Tourism Dawson Creek, the Cougars and the Oil Kings announced two pre-season games on Thursday September 12th and Saturday September 14th.

This was part of a shift brought on by the City of Dawson Creek. They wanted a shift to Sports and Events Tourism. "This is another example of us working with out partners and creating an event that is not seen in any other market. Morever, this work is a continuation of the relationships that were fostered from hosting the World U17 Hockey Challenge in 2015 and 2017.

This is not the first time that Dawson Creek has hosted Junior Hockey. The Dawson Creek Rage of the North American Hockey League played at the Encana Events Centre from 2010-2012. The team ceased operations due to high travelling and operating costs. They had attempted to join the BCHL and the AJHL but were unsuccessful in both attempts.

Tickets are available in Dawson Creek at the Tiger Box Office location at the Encana Events Centre or in Fort St. John at the Systems Sound Source Ticket outlet. They go for $25 dollars each or two for $40 dollars with the proceeds from those sales go to the Dawson Creek & District Hospital Foundation.
