In a rare occurrence two teams from the WHL are meeting tonight to decide which team qualifies for the post season. The Kelowna Rockets and the Kamloops Blazers are set to play tonight in Kamloops to decide who faces the Victoria Royals in round one of the WHL playoffs. This does not occur often but will happen due to the Rockets and Blazers having identical regular season records and points totals.
It's a the seventh tiebreaker in league history. During the 1980-1981 season the Spokane Chiefs and the New Westminster Bruins (now the Kamloops Blazers) met with Spokane winning 10-9. After the game tonight all of the first round matchups will be completed:
- Vancouver vs Seattle
- Victoria vs (Kelowna or Kamloops)
- Everett vs Tri-City
- Spokane vs Portland
- Prince Albert vs Red Deer
- Saskatoon vs Moose Jaw
- Edmonton vs Medicine Hat
- Lethbridge vs Calgary
