The Wenatchee Wild and Penticton Vees were both riding hot streaks into their first meeting of the year on Wednesday night, but it was Wenatchee who skated away with the 4-2 victory at Town Toyota Center.

The Wild converted on their first power play chance of the game at 16:53 when Matt Gosiewski shoveled home the rebound of a Matt Dorsey attempt and Wenatchee held a 1-0 edge after 1. Cassidy Bowes tied it up for the Vees early in the second, but a Vees turnover set up AJ Hodges for an unassisted score at 8:14 of the second and Wenatchee led 2-1 after 2. On a power play early in the third, Brandon Koch carried the puck into the zone as the Wild changed lines behind him. Koch spun inside the right point, and spotted Christophe Fillion driving down the left wing, and saucered a perfect pass across that Fillion deflected over the glove hand of Jack LaFontaine for a 3-1 lead. Penticton pulled back to within a goal as Cassidy Bowes set up Eric Linell on a brisk rush, but Chad Sasaki drove home a rebound of a Matt Dorsey shot that had been denied at point blank range for the 4-2 lead that proved to be the final. Austin Park ended up making 22 saves to earn the victory, as the Wild reach four consecutive wins for the second time this month. The win moves the Wild to within two points of second place Merritt and three points of first place Penticton.

Wenatchee (17-10-2) heads north this weekend to face Salmon Arm (14-10-3-0) on Friday and Vernon (10-9-6-3) on Saturday. Both games will be available for video streaming on HockeyTV, and will be broadcast live both locally and via internet stream on “NewsRadio 560 KPQ”, with the Pregame Shows starting at 6:45 pm.
