On Monday Kelowna Rockets GM Bruce Hamilton announced that head coach Jason Smith has been released from his duties. This comes after the Rockets poor start to the season where they currently sit in 9th place in the Western Conference. Their current record is 4 wins and 10 losses.
"Any time you let someone go that is the quality of Jason Smith it's very tough, however the success of our hockey club ultimately falls with myself and I feel at this time we need to go in a different direction. Jason is just a wonderful person and we want to thank him for his time here." That was Rockets GM Bruce Hamilton commenting on letting go of Jason Smith.
Smith was hired by the Rockets in the summer of 2016 and has been with the team for more than two seasons. In both seasons the Rockets had 40+ win seasons but experienced an early playoff exit last March at the hands of the Tri-City Americans.
