GREEN BAY GAMBLERS: 3, DUBUQUE FIGHTING SAINTS: 2
Gamblers grind out a win against the Saints. Chris Lipe (Dubuque) started the contest’s scoring with the Gamblers’ Robert Herrman matching his effort a mere 22 seconds later. Owning the second period, Paul Maust and Noah Prokop gave the only goals to the Gamblers. A final goal by the Saints’ Riese Gaber would complete the score sheet for the evening.
Evan Fear stopped 34 of 36 shots for his first victory.
TEAM USA: 5, SIOUX FALLS STAMPEDE: 4 (SO)
It would take more than overtime for Team USA to defeat the Stampede 5-4 in a shootout. The most anticipated game of the day lived up to the hype, and knocked off the Sioux Falls Stampede. The USA would score first on a Cole Caufield goal. The Stampede answered back with a tally from Blake Bride. The Stampede would then take a commanding 3-1 lead with goals from Artem Ivanyuzhenkov and Jeppe Urup. Team USA overcame a 3-1 third period deficit with Matt Boldy, Patrick Moynihan and Ryder Rolston all making their way to the scoreboard. With Team USA in a 4-3 lead, Sioux Falls rallied with a goal by Andre Lee with only 65 seconds left in regulation. Overtime would provide no victor and the teams continued to a five-round shootout. Jack Hughes, Cole Caufield and Domenick Fensore would score and earn the win in the process.
Cameron Rowe made 19 saves on 23 shots (including the overtime) and went 3 for 5 in the shootout.
WATERLOO BLACK HAWKS: 3, OMAHA LANCERS: 1
The Waterloo Black Hawks beat the Omaha Lancers 3-1 in a decisive win. Matt Koopman earned his second goal of the season for the ‘Hawks. Shortly after the Lancers would respond with a goal from Brian Silver. Goals from both Griffin Ness and Ryan Drkulec would give Waterloo the win.
Jared Moe (a Golden Gopher commit) was solid, stopping 28 of the 29 shots to get his first victory this season.
MUSKEGON LUMBERJACKS: 6, SIOUX CITY MUSKETEERS: 3
For early goals from Jagger Joshua, Daniil Gushchin, Brock Bremer and Egor Afanasyev would give the ‘Jacks commanding control of the first and a 4-0 lead. The second would belong to the Muskies with a goal from Parker Ford and a pair from Martin Popisil. As promising as the second was, Sioux City wound up blanked again in the third. However the Lumberjacks would extend their lead and earn the win with goals from Bobby Lynch and an ENG from James McIsaac.
With his second win on the weekend, Brandon Bussi stopped 24 of 27.
