There might be only two games left in the BCHL season, but players are still producing outstanding work on the ice at the end of a long year. The NAHL playoffs are also showcasing some of the best junior hockey around.
Jasper Weatherby, Wenatchee Wild, British Columbia Hockey League: The North Dakota commitment scored two goals and recorded three assists in two games as the Wild ran out to a 2-0 lead in the Fred Page Cup finals, with a 4-0 win on Friday and 4-2 victory Saturday over the Prince George Spruce Kings.
Cooper Zech, Wild, BCHL: The compact defenseman, who is committed to Ferris State, had three assists in Friday night’s win, earning the Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game award.
Blake Howard, Spruce Kings, BCHL: Howard has the only goals for the Spruce Kings so far in the BCHL finals, scoring both in Saturday’s loss.
Jonathan Bendorf, Aberdeen Wings, North American Hockey League: Bendorf scored three goals and added an assist in the Wings’ first playoff game, a 6-0 win over the Minot Minotauros on Friday night.
Ryan Burnett, Shreveport Mudbugs, NAHL: Burnett opened Shreveport’s playoff run with a goal and two assists in Friday night’s 4-2 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays, then followed up with an assist in Saturday’s 3-2 win. He finished the weekend +4.
Benji Eckerle, Janesville Jets, NAHL: Eckerle had a goal and an assist in Friday night’s 3-0 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues before adding a pair of helpers during Saturday’s 3-2 victory.
