The Florida Eels are excited to announce the signing of Defensemen
Jean-Philippe Montmarquette to the Eels USPHL Premier team. Jean-Philippe is a
native of St-Therese, QC, Canada. Jean-Philippe is a veteran defenseman
1998 5’11” 170 pound. . He played the past two seasons for the prestigious
Northwood Prep School in Lake Placid, New York. He is a product of HPA Sports
Management under the guidance of Dan D’Astoli
Executive Director and Senior Advisor of HPA Sports Management Group.

General Manager Frank Scarpaci scouted Jean-Philippe
several weeks ago at the HPA Junior Hockey Combine in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This
Combine was truly an eye opener. There were so many extremely talented junior
hockey prospects at this one venue. GM Scarpaci attends virtually every
Showcase in North America and the key to HPA Sports Combine is that the level
of talent is very high across the board. There is one level and the bar set by
HPA is very high and this is exactly what the Eels program looks for in its
recruit: This standard is the pinnacle of what HPA Sports Management delivers
to its scouts and players.

GM Scarpaci comments that after watching Jean-Philippe in
the first game he knew he wanted him for his Eels USPHL Premier team. He played
like a seasoned veteran defenseman. As the showcase continued and GM got to
watch the remaining games including the All Star game where Jean-Philippe’s
skill set and hockey IQ began to unfold. He made smart first outlet passes in
the defensive zone, battles very hard in front of his own net protecting “his
house” like it is where his mom lives. Jean-Philippe was equally tough along
the boards denying opposing players any sustained penetration to his net.

Jean-Philippe had excellent gap control with one on one zone entries
as the opposition attempted line rushes.  He was smart and drove them
wide. GM Scarpaci was very happy to discover that Jean-Philippe was equally
strong and effective on the offensive blue line. He made sure he kept the puck
in the zone as he frustrated the opposition breakouts. He had a very accurate
and heavy shot that gets on net. GM Scarpaci described him as that modern
two-way defenseman. Clearly Jean-Philippe will be a strong addition to the Eels
Premier team’s solid veteran Defensive core of Nick Diaz, Brian Kozak and Blake

GM Scarpaci got to spend some “off-Ice” time with Jean-Philippe and
his family. This is important to make sure he will fit the chemistry of our
program There was no doubt that Jean-Philippe is a high character young man.
You can tell he comes from a very supportive family. He is a quality young man,
with maturity, integrity, passion and determination. Yes this is the kind of
player we want!

Jean-Philippe comes to us in a long line of outstanding players
developed by HPA Sports Management. GM Scarpaci has been doing business with Executive Director, Dan D’Astoli for 20 years. Over the
years we have garnered some of our top Elite and USP players from HPA Sports
management. HPA is
one of the Premier Hockey Advisor agencies in North
America helping hundreds of families from over 30
countries to find the right academic and hockey environment for their
particular needs in North America. He has recruited and helped develop
student/athletes from all over the world and has helped place them in various
North American Prep Schools, Sports Academies, Colleges and Universities. We
are honored that HPA had recommended
Jean-Philippe to join the Eels this
season.  We look forward to an outstanding tenure with the Eels and helping
Jean-Philippe realize his dreams of advancing to college.
