Florida Eels Coaching Staff Crosses The USA In Search Of Next Year's Top Prospects Junior Hockey News

Published: Thursday, 4 May 2017
By: Frank Scarpaci

The Florida Eels have been known to attend 10-12 post
season showcases in search for top prospects for its junior teams. This year is
no different. It is a fundamental difference in approach Trouts vs Showcases.
The Eels General Manager has been doing this for 3 decades and has put together
some pretty strong teams. He is of the philosophy  that he rather
see a player compete at the various showcases. He then invites players under
his radar to join him with an Eels all star prospects team and again compete
with and against the top players from North America and Europe.

"He believes in the principle: If your out there we will
find you"

The Florida Eels General Manager
Frank Scarpaci is  known for his  frequent flyer miles  for sure as he crosses the USA from coast to
coast in search for talent for his 2017-18 Premier and Elite squads. This year
he and his coaching staff have already attended the USA Hockey Nationals for
High School All Stars – The Americas Showcase in Pittsburgh. Wow over 500
players there representing their respective stats and regions across the USA.

GM Scarpaci also attended the HPA
Combine in Fort Wayne Indiana and it was indeed one of the most impressive
showcases he has been to in years. There were some very strong junior prospects
from the NCDC Premier and Elite level. The HPA group did an extremely
professional job at this event. The HPA staff spent much time talking to
players and junior coaches trying to make the right fit for the players. I have
never before seen such a coordinated effort in attending to the needs of the
players. The nice thing I found at this showcase was the professionalism of all
the Junior coaches in dealing with players as well as amongst each other. Sure
they were competitive and trying to see their programs but the “extremes”
simply was not there. I do think this was a tribute to HPA and their staff.
Thanks very much for all you have done.
Here at HPA our USPHL teams were well represented.

General Manager Scarpaci also headed
out to LA at the Cali Prospects Showcase. It was the first time we ventured out
west and it was well worth it. Seeing some of the west coast players was
fantastic. We never get to get a hard look at these guys and it was great. My
word what phenomenal talent indeed. There too the Showcase directors did an
absolute incredible job making sure that the players who participated were of
the highest caliber. All of these young men would be excellent prospects in the
USPHL. There were some very high-end NCDC prospects as well as some very
talented Premier level guys and a number of Elite level players.

The USPHL had a ½ dozen teams out
there and it is was a good representation of our league. We all did a nice job
selling the league first and then our league. This is the way it should be.
