Daytona, FL- Trevor Bednarek scored a goal in his fourth straight game to help the Florida Jr. Blades defeat the Daytona Racers 6-1 Sunday morning at Daytona International Skateway.
"The guys played hard. We were pretty relentless on the forecheck and we're able to get contributions from multiple different players again,” said assistant coach Carlston. “It's a step in the right direction but we'll quickly get back to work on preparing for Tampa next weekend. "
The Jr. Blades came out and set the tone in the first period when Charlie Mondor scored an even strength goal just 55 seconds after the opening puck drop. Within 26 seconds, Evan Maxey would rip one into the net prompting a goalie change by the Racers as Jesse Pennebaker entered for Cameron Walsh. Pennebaker's play would stop any additional goals in the first holding the Jr. Blades to a 2-0 lead.
The Racers got one back just 2:41 into the second as Paul Rigolini put one up on the board. The Jr. Blades gained back the momentum when Bednarek found an opening through Pennebaker to end the second period 3-1.
The third period belonged to the Jr. Blades who notched three unanswered goals. Devon Rodriguez opened the scoring at 9:56 into the period. Within seven minutes, Matt Larmoyeux and Tyler O'Mara found Dillon Manchester to double the lead. TJ Zebley would respond just 30 seconds later sealing the Jr. Blades victory 6-1.
Cayden Bailey earned the win stopping 15 out of 16 shots on net, while Jesse Pennebaker gave up four goals on 35 shots after replacing Cameron Walsh.
The Jr. Blades next game will take place against the Tampa Bay Juniors at the Ellenton Ice & Sports Complex on September 24. Game time is set at 5:15 p.m.
