Wenatchee, WA – The Wenatchee Wolves hosted the Eugene Generals for the final game of the NPHL’s 2015 – 2016 regular season. When both playoff bound teams hit the ice for the first period, the Wolves were able to strike first with two goals from Hunter Hegdahl. Following Hegdahl’s second goal, the Generals’ Christian Dale scored the team’s first goal of the evening. But before the period came to an end, the Wolves scored one more goal.

After an exciting first period, both the Wolves and Generals held each other at bay during the second period. Despite no scoring being recorded in the period, the Wolves’ defense shined as the team held the Generals to a single shot on goal. Through the first two periods, the Wolves outshot the Generals, 38 – 9.

The Wolves opened up the third period with the team’s fourth goal of the evening. On this goal, Hunter Alden found the back of the net while Johnny Schacher and Richie Stickle assisted on the play. While the Wolves scored one goal during the period, the Generals could not score in the third period. Alden’s goal helped push the Wolves to a 4 – 1 victory.

With this victory, the Wolves now own the NPHL’s record for the best season win percentage. The Wolves finish the NPHL’s 2015 – 2016 season with a .975 win percentage. Currently, this is the best in the nation for this season.

Ryan McKelvie, the Wolves’ head coach, commented on tonight’s game. McKelvie said, “I'm proud of the guys for setting the NPHL’s regular season record today. It takes an extraordinary and consistent effort to do something like that, and our guys earned it this regular season. We are excited for the post-season to start, and we hope to continue our team’s success.”

Justin Kern, the Generals’ head coach, shared his thoughts about this evening’s game. Kern stated, “I thought five-on-five the boys played pretty well. Unfortunately, we got put in the box a lot, and the game kind of slowed down from there. Wenatchee is a great team and they hit a great milestone today. I look forward to hopefully meeting them again in the playoffs.”

The #1 seeded Wolves (39-1-0-0, 78 points) will take on the Tri-City Outlaws in the first round of the NPHL’s 2016 playoffs next weekend. While the #3 seeded Generals (21-17-1-1, 44 points) will duke it out with the Bellingham Blazers.

Notable Performances:
(WEN) Bronson Moore (G) – one goal allowed, .964 save percentage on the evening
(WEN) Hunter Hegdahl (F) – two goals
