Charlie Gerard and Tyler Irvine recorded multi-point nights and Devin Cooley made 45 saves, as the Muskegon Lumberjacks earn one point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Green Bay Gamblers.
The Gamblers opened the scoring fourteen minutes into the first period. On their second power play of the evening, Grant Frederic slapped home a rebound to give the Gamblers a 1-0 lead. However, with seven seconds to go in the first twenty minutes of hockey, Charlie Gerardweaved through the Gamblers defense and netted his first goal in a Muskegon Lumberjacks uniform. Tyler Irvine registered the assist on the goal that leveled the game at one. Devin Cooley played a strong first period in net making 15 saves as the Lumberjacks were outshot 16-4 in the first frame of hockey.
The Lumberjacks got their first lead of the weekend series 7:36 into the second period. Lucas Michaud played the puck back to Graham Lillibridge, and he one-timed a shot that was redirected into the back of the net by Irvine for a 2-1 lead. The Gamblers responded seven minutes later, when Joey Marooney tapped the puck into the back of the net, to tie the game at two. The Lumberjacks would score their third goal late in the second period, when Collin Adams netted his 20th of the season. Gerard and Rem Pitlick recorded the assists on the tally, and the Lumberjacks took the one-goal lead into the second intermission.
The Gamblers netted the only goal of the third period to force the extra frame. Ryan Smith slapped home his second goal in as many games, and tied the game 3-3.
The Gamblers picked up the win in the final minute of overtime when Jack Poehling wristed home the game winner, as the Lumberjacks earned one point, falling to Green Bay 4-3 in overtime.
Tyler Irvine and Charlie Gerard recorded one goal and assist each, as Devin Cooley made 45 saves during the final game of the road trip.
The next Muskegon Lumberjacks (20-22-6) game will be next weekend, when they return home to start a seven game home stand. The Lumberjacks will host the Sioux City Musketeers (19-28-1) for a weekend series. It will be dollar beer and dollar dog night on Friday, and Beach Night on Saturday. The puck will drop at 7:15 p.m. on both nights.
