The Wisconsin Rapids RiverKings (31-8-4) head into the
last 5 games of their regular season schedule this weekend as they travel to
play two games against the Steele County Blades. The RiverKings, coming into
the weekend rested after a weekend off will have one thing on their mind, the
four points that they need bring back and claim as their own.
When the RiverKings take the ice for Saturday night’s
game they will have a short bench, and will rely heavily on their top three
point scorers to give them the advantage. Currently, Kevin Van Bokkelen is leading the
RiverKings with 65 points and is the fourth highest point getter in the
league. Second in points on the team is
Reed Kaiser with 59 points, ranking ninth in the league, and lastly is Tyler Harkins
with 55 points, and tied for 12th in the league. As the RiverKings look to their high-powered
offense to score goals they will be looking to rookie defenseman, Harrison Kohl
to provide some firepower from the point. Kohl is currently 6th on
the RiverKings in scoring with 35 assists and 10 goals for 45 points.
In addition to the RiverKings leaning on their point
leaders to get the job done up front, they will also be looking to veteran
goaltender, Sam Nelson to support the team on the back end. Nelson currently has a .922 SV% and is tied
for third in the league for most shutouts.
Currently the RiverKings are in 5th place in
the Western Division with 66 points and are trailing the SVC Magicians due to
head-to-head games with a total of 66 points, the Forest Lake Lakers with 70,
the Dells Ducks with 72 points, and the Chicago cougars with 79 points. The
RiverKings are fighting for home ice in the first round of playoffs, but only
the top 4 teams will receive this advantage.
The RiverKings are looking forward to taking to the ice
this weekend against the Steele County Blades to put the last two weeks of
practice to a test. The RiverKings will
be facing off against the Blades at the Four Seasons Center, located at 1525
South Elm Ave, Owatana, MN 55060. The
games are Saturday, February 13 at 7:00pm, and Sunday, February 14, at 3:00pm.
