Daily Dish: AAU Suspends Holland River Bandits Junior Hockey News

In an unprecedented move that should send shockwaves through the junior hockey community, the Amateur Athletic Union's United Hockey Union has suspended the membership of the Midwest Junior Hockey League's Holland River Bandits for a minimum of one year. The team has also been slapped with a $2,000 fine and owner Deveri' Del Core individually with another $2,000 fine that has to be paid by July 15th, 2013 or face additional sanctions.

Del Core refused to comply with AAU national director Keith Noll's decision in regards to the use of Bandits coach Michael Chighisola. Chighisola's ( article here ) application for AAU membership was initially rejected due to a failed background check. The would be coach has since appealed that rejection and was not supposed to have anything to do with the team until that process was completed.

A number of readers residing in the state of Illinois have informed us that they have reported their suspicions of welfare fraud to the Office of Inspector General for the State of Illinois Healthcare and Family Services after reading Monday's Daily Dish section regarding the River Bandits situation.

We are still awaiting word on the status of Chighisola's appeal but I can tell you this, we've been told that the organization is not looking favorable at the latest antics of the former player. Over the last few days, a number of his former team mates have contacted us with the same concern, Chighisola should never be in a position to influence impressionable young men. is the premier website dedicated to delivering the latest news and developing stories from junior hockey across North America, as well as providing online tools for junior hockey players and prospects.
