CHEYENNE, WY. - The Cheyenne Stampede, member of the Western States Hockey League, has announced that Eric Ballard (Grand Rapids, Mn./Fresno NAHL) has agreed to terms to become the team's new head coach.

The new coach was named by team General Manager Mark Lantz.

Ballard spent last season on the bench for University of Colorado Buffaloes American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I hockey club. He spent to previous four seasons in Fresno, three years as the Head Coach and General Manager of the Fresno Monsters North American Hockey League team, and one as the Head Coach and General Manager of the Western States Hockey League club.

Lantz is very excited to get the veteran coach under contract. "We are extremely pleased to have Ballard taking the reins of the Stampede and are expecting another huge growth year for the franchise with Eric running our hockey club!"

"We are thrilled to bring Ballard back to the league. He brings a level of experience to the league that is rarely seen at this level, WSHL Commissioner Ron White said in response Ballard signing with Cheyenne.  "We are also proud that he has accepted a third challenge from the league; from his days with the Sinbad Sailors in Alaska, the first year of the Fresno Monsters and now as part of the Cheyenne Stampede."

"I'm very pleased and fortunate to be joining a program with a great infrastructure and local support already in place," Ballard said on Monday. "Being 100% committed to the development of the players, both on and off the ice, I am very excited to start working with the Stampede.  I'm also looking forward to help build on what Mark and Tammy Lantz (Stampede Owners), and the organization, have done to date."

The new coach is expected to begin immediately and is looking forward to talking to prospects from across the hockey landscape.  Interested players should contact Coach Eric Ballard directly at: EBallard@CheyenneStampede.com or call him at 307-630-4926.

Congrats to coach Ballard. My guess is it won't be long till he's back in the NAHL at least. Does this mean we won't be getting any of the stories spoken of a few weeks ago http://www.juniorhockey.com/news/news_detail.php?new

I don't care about the dirt. I would like to hear about the Fresno Monster NAHL/WSHL relationship. Sitting here in my office, I'm looking at a stack of business cards from coaches that have crossed my/my son's path over the years mostly from the NAHL and BCHL. I've got at least a dozen from the Monsters equally split between NAHL and WSHL. We never gave them a second thought because of the NA/WS relationship. It looked a little too much like the east coast business model to me. Was hoping for the inside scoop.

Again, congratulations coach Ballard and good luck
