The shootout was once again the enemy of the
Johnstown Tomahawks as the Fresno Monsters swept through Johnstown by winning
2-1.
"For two nights in a row we battled," Fresno head
coach Eric Ballard said. "The boys didn't give up."
Johnstown, for the second straight night, scored
first.
JB Baker made a series of moves around defenders and
put the puck past Macauley Haight . For Baker the goal was his seventh of the
season.
Fresno would not register a shot on goal until
nearly 15 minutes of the period had been played.
It would take three shots before Fresno would tie
the game.
Mitchell Snyder took advantage of a Gordon Wells
pass and beat Tomahawks goalie Chris Truehl.
Haight and Truehl stood tall in net for both teams
during the second and third period and kept each other's teams from scoring.
"You can't win many games just scoring one goal,"
Said Jason Spence, the head coach of Johnstown. "We need to have more finish."
Newton Fuller and Snyder tallied goals in the
shootout for Fresno and Haight shutout the Tomahawks.
"Sometimes we get on those times when you're not
getting a lot goals, you try to make it too perfect instead of driving and
going," Spence said. "We left too many goals on the ice today."
The Tomahawks have lost six straight home games.
In addition, a crowd of 3,725 packed the War
Memorial. It was the sixth sellout of the season for Johnstown.
However, the Tomahawks are winless this season when
the arena is sold out.
Up next for the
Tomahawks is a visit to Springfield.
