Estero, Fla.-The Florida Jr. Blades head coach and general manager Tad O'Had are pleased to announce that Marcus Ortiz has committed to SUNY- Fredonia. Oritz, a native of Texas played with the Jr. Blades for the record setting 2011-12 season.
The five-foot-eleven forward is known for his offensive spent the majority of the season playing with the New Jersey Titans before being traded to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights of the AJHL. Ortiz is the second Jr. Blade to commit to a major NCAA Division III school this season. "Marcus Ortiz had a major role in helping the Blades compete for the USA Hockey nationals last season," said O'Had. "He has incredible offensive instincts and we are so happy he is taking his talent to the NCAA level.
Ortiz brings more than just skill to the Blue Devils, he brings an indomitable work ethic. "Definitely a character player, Ortiz is a polite young man that understands hard work," said O'Had. "He has a great sense of work ethic, instilled by his mother and we are very proud that he will be attending college."
Fredonia plays in the SUNYAC conference and is a member of the NCAA Division III. "Coach Meredith at Fredonia will be very pleased with his scouts. Marcus is an exceptional young man with a true love for the game of hockey," said O'Had. "He is always excited to play and Marcus has the tools to perform at the next level- skating, speed, power, hands, shots and hockey I.Q."
