Stache: Back in the Day - Junior Hockey News

Back in the day the only people that had team jackets were the players and management. Obviously the team jackets were a precious commodity in the junior hockey world. This circumstance reminded me of a funny story.

I grew up in a humble environment and our toilet was in the basement in a five-gallon pail. Therefore we had to take out the honey just like taking out the garbage. My dad had given one of our Dauphin Kings jackets to Nobby White the honey wagon driver. Nobby was a very important man in our community if you get what I mean.

One of my chores around the house was taking out the honey on Monday mornings. If I forgot to take out the honey in the winter I would let it freeze outside and then melt it in the house on Sunday night.

I was standing on my driveway one spring morning and Nobby pulls up with the honey wagon. It was a nice spring day in Manitoba with the temperature at about 20 above. Nobby stops the tractor and proceeds to take off the Kings jacket. As he was taking of the jacket it fell into the honey. Nobby grabs a one of my old hockey sticks and is trying fish the Kings jacket out of the honey. I said to Nobby forget about the jacket I will get you  another one.

Blaine - nice story.
Reminds me of doing all kinds of chores to get a full leather highschool hockey jacket. It was green.
When I was really young and just starting to skate the guy who came around with his little foot pedal grinder to sharpen knives etc. would also do our skates. It was cool to see the sparks fly at the side of the road.
