Simmonds boosts Atlanta Jr. Knights over Hampton Roads - Junior Hockey News

Jordan Simmonds was all over the ice for Atlanta Jr. Knights, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Atlanta Jr. Knights' 4-1 win over Hampton Roads Whalers.

Simmonds got on the board by slotting home a goal 17:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derek Makimaa picked up the assist. Simmonds dished an assist on Makimaa's goal that made the score 2-1 Atlanta Jr. Knights at 1:48 into the second period. He added another helper on Hunter Scott's goal that made the score 4-1 Atlanta Jr. Knights at 11:47 into the second period.

Hampton Roads Whalers' power play was ineffective against Atlanta Jr. Knights' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Atlanta Jr. Knights kept Hampton Roads Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Scott made 32 saves on 36 shots. Atlanta Jr. Knights was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Atlanta Jr. Knights' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Atlanta Jr. Knights finished with 32 penalty minutes.

Atlanta Jr. Knights also got points from Makimaa, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Scott, who also had one goal and one assist. Atlanta Jr. Knights also got a goal fromAlexander Goodhue as well. In addition, Atlanta Jr. Knights received assists from Aaron DusekTyler PionkGeorge Gerasimou, and Aaron Blaker, who contributed one a piece.

Hampton Roads Whalers was held below its usual level of production. Hampton Roads Whalers puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. Hampton Roads Whalers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hampton Roads Whalers was led by Matthew Zendejas, who scored the team's only goal. Zendejas scored on the power play 14:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hampton Roads Whalers. Hampton Roads Whalers had gotten the advantage when Atlanta Jr. Knights' Dusek was sent off for roughing. Alexander Brissette assisted on the tally.

Austin Campbell made 24 saves for Atlanta Jr. Knights on 25 shots.
