The Bloomington Jr. Blaze and Rhinelander Street Cats each posted wins in Saturday night Midwest Junior Hockey League action. In the first game Saturday, the Jr. Blaze downed the Holland River Bandits 8-5 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum on the strength of five-point games from Matt Donley andSteven Smoltz, who each posted two goals and three assists. Joe Clemente added two goals and two assists and Ty Gehrken chipped in a pair of goals in the win. Anton Thompson and Kyler Schmor contributed two assists apiece and goaltender Gavin Carlson stopped 26 shots to get the victory between the pipes. For Holland, Cam Fisher had a goal and three assists, Abram Prince a goal and two helpers and Bryce Stenstrom and Greg Balsam with a goal and an assist each. Alex Devries also scored for the River Bandits, Cam Benson added two assists and Jeromy Semtner made 33 saves in goal. ********** At the Rhinelander Ice Arena, Dylan Farmer scored twice and Kent Nusbaum turned aside 28 shots to lead the Street Cats past the Great Lakes Lightning by a 7-4 count. Aleksandr Ilin tallied a goal and an assist, while Nick Fleming, Peter Carlin, Sergey Deev and Kirill Kulakov added goals in the victory. Dmitry Lvov and Devan Vander Wyk each posted a pair of assists for Rhinelander. Mitch Mergel recorded two goals and an assist for Great Lakes, while Colton James scored twice as well. In the Lightning cage, Zach Boes and Colin Walsh combined for 33 saves.
