Great the
lookout is over; let's look at the challenges moving forward. You can argue all
day what side got the best deal. In my option everyone benefits from this
agreement including the fans.
Now that the
players and owners have agreed to a business deal, there are a number of issues
that were not addressed, one being the viability of a number of teams.
The National
Hockey League and National Hockey League Players Association have an agreement
on an environment where everyone has an opportunity to succeed, REALLY?
I did not
see the agreement, but I think there was a small increase in revenue sharing.
Was it enough to make Nashville, Columbus, Phoenix and Florida, successful NHL markets?
In terms of
these teams' profit and loss statements only their accounts know what the real
net losses are, but we can assume they are not making a lot of money. I do not
think all 30 teams will be in place five years from now, meaning fewer
opportunities for junior hockey's youngest prospects.
That brings
us to the obvious question, what does the process entail regarding making all
teams viable under this agreement.
