The weekend is done and we saw a lot of great games in the West this weekend. The Wenatchee Wild took on the Minot Minotarous, the Fresno Monsters played host to the Bismarck Bobcats, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs saw the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, and the Kenai River Brown Bears played the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
Wenatchee who took a win Friday against Minot could not say they had the same luck Saturday as the Minotarous beat them 6-3. The scoring started at 17:42 In the first period when Minot's Denis Dalidovich put the games first goal in on the power play. Shortly thereafter at 14:46 Minot struck again shorthanded with a goal by Jake Oborsky. Wenatchee responded quickly at 13:23 with a goal by Evan Schmidbauer . Period one ended with a score of 2-1 Minot. Wenatchees David Polowski put the game tying goal by at 14:29 in the second period. Jono Davis of Wenatchee put by their third and final goal of the night at 3:39 in the second period on the power play. Minot quickly responded at 2:18 with a goal by Wesely Iverson. 3-3 at the end of the second. Quickly In the third at 17:18 Minot's Travis Maxwell put the game winning goal in to make it 4-3. Then at 2:58 Jadin Martin of the Minotarous put one in and at 1:04 Steven Sherman put the empty netter in the give Minot the win. Next weekend the Bismarck Bobcats will be in Wenatchee.
The Bismarck Bobcats once again came into a loud Selland Arena that hosted over 4700 people Saturday night. The Monsters and Bobcats went back and forth the whole first period not scoring a single goal, Bismarck out shot the Monsters 8-7. The second started with more fast paced back and forth hockey with Bismarcks Shane Omdahl silencing the home crowd with a goal at 11:23 In the second period. Fresno responded at 8:23 with a goal by Trevor Husch. Bismarck's Mike Dockry responded at 7:17 to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead. After a scuffle late In the second that sent a player from each team to the box Bismarcks Shane Omdahl got his second of the night to put the Bobcats up 3-1 and sent people for the doors. The Monsters got back into the game at 15:27 in the third with a goal by Jordan Haskell that put the Monsters within one but that would be the last goal the Monsters could score as the Bobcats sweept the Monsters in 2 games. The Monsters take on the Minot Minotarous at home next weekend.
After a great game that went into a shootout Friday night the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Corpus Christi Ice Rays went at it again Saturday. The first period saw no goals but the Ice Rays out shot the Ice Dogs 14-10. Finally at 10:34 In the second period Corpus Christi's Aj Jarosz put on in the make it 1-0 Ice Rays.Quickly In the third period at 18:51 the Ice Rays Eric Purcell slipped one by making it 2-0 Ice Rays. At 12:24 Corpus Christi's Emil Romig got the third goal in to make it 3-0 Ice Rays. At 6:38 in the third Fairbanks Niklas Mayrhauser put on in the avoid the shut out but it was to late as the Ice Rays went on to win the game 3-1. The Ice Dogs take on the Wichita Falls Wildcats next weekend at home.
The Kenai River Brown Bears came into Saturdays game looking for the sweep of the Wichita Falls Wildcats and they got it beating the Wildcats 5-2. The scoring started at 11:54 In the first period with a Wildcat goal by #11. 1-0. Kenai River responded at 4:11 In the first with a goal by Brad LeLievre. 1-1. Kenai River's Zach Lazzaro got a goal at 16:54 In the second period on the power play. 2-1 Kenai River. At 6:38 In the second Kenai Rivers Vincent Stefan got a power play goal putting the Brown Bears up 3-1. 30 seconds into the third period the Wichita Falls Wildcats Colin Staub got the Wildcats second goal. 3-2. Matt Seidel of the Brown Bears put the safety goal in the net at 14:34 In the third to seal the deal. Ansel Duesenberg of the Brown Bears put the empty netter in the back of the net to make it 5-2 Kenai River and give the Brown Bears the weekend sweep. The Brown Bears will play host to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays next weekend.
