Friday is done and Saturday night hockey is upon us. The West saw mostly success last night In which 3 out of the 4 teams put up a win. The Wenatchee Wild took on the Minot Minotarous in Wenatchee, The Fairbanks Ice Dogs played host to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays, The Bismarck Bobcats took the long trip to Fresno to play the Monsters and the Kenai River Brown Bears saw the Wichita Falls Wildcats.
The Wenatchee Wild (11-2-1) took to the ice with the incredible Wenatchee fan base behind them against the Minot Minotarous. This was a really back and forth game where the Minotarous fought hard to stay in the Game against the tough Wenatchee Wild. The scoring didn't start till 10:14 in the second period when Wenatchee's Chris Jones put one by.later in the period at 2:27 Wenatchee struck again with a goal by Max Mchugh. Only forty five seconds into the third period Jake Barber put a shorthanded goal by to make it 3-0 Wenatchee. The rest of the third saw Wenatchee's Jono Davis and Trace Redmond both receive misconducts for abuse of officials. Later at 2:11 in the third Minot's Ryan Doner put a goal by to avoid the shut out. The Wild and Minot will play again tonight at 7:05 PST.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs (11-3-0) took on the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at home and the fans got a treat with a game that went into shootout. Fairbanks Duggie Lagrone started the scoring at 18:18 in the first period. The first ended 1-0 Fairbanks with Fairbanks leading the shots 9-7. Early in the second Corpus Christi's Brandon Smith put one by to tie the game up at 16:07. 1-1. At 8:00 in the second Ice Ray's Aj Jarosz struck and put the Ice Rays up one. 2-1 Corpus Christi. Then with only 33 seconds left in the second Ice Dog Jayson Angus put one In the back of the net to tie it up. 2-2. The action in the third started quickly with a Fairbanks goal by Devin Loe only 27 seconds into the period. 3-2 Fairbanks. Ice Ray Tommaso Bucci tied it up again at 16:24. 3-3. After more back and forth hockey Fairbank's Chandler Madry snuck one by at 6:10. 4-3 Fairbanks. The Ice Rays responded about three minutes later at 3:39 in the third to tie it up and force overtime. 4-4. The overtime period didn't see much besides 2 shots for each team and matching minor penalties with 30 seconds left. Shootout. In the shootout Ice Dogs Jacob Hetz put the game winner in to give the Ice Dogs the win. The Ice Dogs and Ice Rays play again at 7:30 AKST tonight. It should be another good one.
The Fresno Monsters (5-7-2) hosted the Bismarck Bobcats Friday in the Monsters home opener that saw more than 3000 fans through the door. The Monsters and Bobcats both played really good back and forth hockey. The first period went scoreless till 3:08 where Bismarck's Cory Chapman got one by. 1-0 Bismarck. Fresno started the scoring In the second to tie it up at 9:15 where Mitch Snyder caught the goalie across the net and put it in the open net. 1-1. Bismarck responded at 5:20 with a goal by Shane Omdahl. 2-1 Bismarck. In the third Bismarck's Adam Knochemus put the empty netter in with 15 seconds left to seal the deal. The Monsters and Bobcats play again tonight at 7:30 PST.
The Kenai River Brown Bears (6-5-3) hosted the Wichita Falls Wildcats last night and put the cats to sleep scoring nine goals making the final score 9-3 Brown Bears. The goal scorers for the Brown Bears are Dylan Meier, Alex Jackstadt, Brad LeLiever with 2, Lucas Kohls with 2, Matt Seidel, and Ansel Duesenberg with 2. The Wildcat scorers are Will Vosejpka, Charles Hemstrom, and Ryan Dau. The Brown Bears and Wildcats go at it tonight at 7:30 AKST.
