Quick, what's the first name you think of when you hear about four "Abuse of Official" penalties after the buzzer committed by a single team? Somebody is off the meds.

 #1         Amarillo Bulls                          7-1-1  /  Last Week #2

The Bulls trampled the Jacks (5-2, 6-1) in both games and are looking sharp. It's a long bus trip to Corpus Christi and the Bulls are looking forward to a few days at the beach. Can they nab four points for their efforts? I think so.

#2         Topeka RoadRunners               9-1-2  /  Last Week #4

The RoadRunners lived up to their name, running out of Texas with three points and a lock on first place in the division. Topeka hosts the Springfield Blues this week and should get the sweep.

#3         Wenatchee Wild                       11-2-1  /  Last Week #3

Hey Bliss, welcome to the NAHL. After a grueling road trip that had the Wild playing fourteen games in 32 days, Wenatchee should be pretty happy with their 11-2-1 record. Should is the key word here. Littler was certainly concerned while watching the wheels fall off in the first two periods of Thursday night's game at Kenai River. Down 7-1 going into the 3rd period, Littler had to pull something out of his hat to salvage the game. "We told the team that we had to respect the Brown Bears, and we did not do that in the first two periods," littler said. "From that point on, we certainly did."

The Wild get a much needed weekend off before Minot comes to town on the 26th and 27th.

#4         Texas Tornado                         9-1-0  /  Last Week #1

HE'S BACK!! Curtale showed his ass on Saturday night after the 5-2 loss to Topeka. In the post-game ruckus, Curtale scored his first Abuse of Officials penalty of the season to go along with three others from his players. We all knew Curtale's impression of a choir boy would be short lived but holy smokes did the wheels come off the bus. The RoadRunners managed to escape Frisco with three points and that's not good news for Texas fans. This week Texas goes to Wichita Falls for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday and hosts the Wildcats Sunday afternoon. Could the Tornado come away with a full six points if Curtale is serving a suspension?

#5         Fairbanks Ice Dogs                  11-3-0  /  Last Week #5

The Dogs collected a full six points from the Fresno Monsters and are just a point out of first place in the division. As if on cue, the temperature in Fairbanks should continue to drop during the week-off before Corpus Christi and Wichita Falls visit in back-to-back weekends.

#6         Austin Bruins                           7-2-0  /  Last Week #10

The Bruins are riding a nice five-game winning streak into Bismarck this weekend. I'd be especially happy to see Chris Tok's club add a few more W's to the streak courtesy of the Bobcats.

#7         Jamestown Ironmen                 8-2-2  /  Last Week #13

The Ironmen have won four in a roll against Springfield and at Michigan. This week Jamestown hosts Kalamazoo and will be lucky to get a single point from the two games.

#8         Brookings Blizzard                  7-3-0  /  Last Week #6

Another weekend and another split for the Blizzard. Brookings gets to host Minot on Saturday, the perfect cure for the common slump.

#9         Kalamazoo K-Wings                 8-4-0  /  Last Week #8

The Zoo gave up six goals to Janesville Sunday in the loss and visit Jamestown this weekend. I'm still trying to figure this team out but feel good about their chances of coming back home with a pair of points.

#10       Soo Eagles                              7-4-2  /  Last Week #12

The Eagles have won six out their last seven games but now find themselves on the road until the middle of November. The first trip to Johnstown should be exciting.

#11       Johnstown Tomahawks            5-4-4  /  Last Week #11

Johnstown managed to nab three points from their three-game road trip to the state of Michigan and would like nothing better than to send the Eagles back to the Soo pointless this weekend.

#12       Port Huron Fighting Falcons    9-5-0  /  Last Week #7

Remember this? "...For the record, anything less than a full four point effort will be an embarrassment." Yikes! Steve Shannon's Falcons were dancing to a completely different tune in Springfield and got swept out of town by the Blues. Moe Mantha is actually excited about his chances against the suddenly slumping division leaders.

#13       Kenai River Brown Bears          6-5-3  /  Last Week #9

The Brown Bears performance in the first two periods of Thursday's game against Wenatchee was amazing. In true David Oliver fashion, the Brownies were outshot (81-38) and outscored (12-1) for the next seven periods by the Wild.

Kenai River gets a week off before facing Paul Baxter's Wichita Falls Wildcats on the 26th and 27th.

#14       Janesville Jets                         5-5-2  /  Last Week #15

The Jets looked really good this weekend at the Zoo and get to host the suddenly cold Coulee Region team this week. Let's see if Janesville can keep Chill frozen.

#15       Fresno Monsters                      5-7-2  /  Last Week #14

Fresno is just happy that it's over. The Monsters went 2-6-2 since leaving the showcase 3-1. Like the rest of the west, Eric Ballard's team is looking forward to a week off. Unlike Wenatchee, Fairbanks, and Kenai River, the Monsters can spend their free-time at the pool in the California sun.

#16       Wichita Falls Wildcats              4-6-2  /  Last Week #16

The Wildcats continued to show a lack of consistency in Corpus Christi but did manage to go home with a pair of points. Getting points this weekend is going to much more difficult with three games against Tony and the Tornado.

#17       Odessa Jackalopes                  3-7-1  /  Last Week #17

A few weeks ago we talked about this stretch of games being crucial to the Jackalopes season. The last minute win in Topeka is a distant memory after four straight losses. Odessa gets a week off to clear their heads and prepare to host the RoadRunners on the 26th and 27th.

#18       Corpus Christi IceRays 3-6-3  /  Last Week #18

The IceRays snapped a six-game losing streak with Friday night's big win over Wichita Falls. Corpus Christi has Amarillo this weekend before the long cold road trip to Alaska.

#19       Aberdeen Wings                       4-6-0  /  Last Week #21

The Wings captured all four-points from Minot over the weekend and look to continue the tradition Friday when they go back to Minot to face the Minotauros.

#20       Bismarck Bobcats                    4-6-0  /  Last Week #20

Do the Austin Bruins have the Bobcats number? We are going to find out this weekend when the two teams battle in Bismarck.

#21       Springfield Blues                     3-7-2  /  Last Week #23

Well well...they might have a hockey team in Springfield after all. The Blues swept the careless Falcons and are going to be feeling good this week. The Topeka RoadRunners are certainly hoping so.

#22       Coulee Region Chill                 2-5-2  /  Last Week #19

The ice-cold Coulee Region Chill only managed a single point out of a two-game homestand against Bismarck and Brookings. Things don't get any easier this weekend when they go south to Janesville.

#23       Michigan Warriors                    2-10-0  /  Last Week #22

Moe Mantha is certainly not a very happy camper now that his Warriors have managed to lose a half dozen games in a roll. Well, Moe, the Blues made Port Huron look silly and nothing would make me happier than to see the Warriors do the same.

#24      Minot Minotauros                     1-8-1  /  Last Week #24

They partied and why not celebrate before another long losing streak starts? Aberdeen is back on Friday. Minot travels to Brookings on Saturday before going to Wenatchee and Fresno to close out the month.

Was THAT fun or what?

Refs are human... regardless of the situation, Curtale and his team need to act in a professional matter.

Lets go ahead and issue handguns to coaches as well and gauge the character flaws of the guys that elect to pull the trigger.

actually watched this game. figured it was going to be the most interesting this weekend and it didnt disappoint. score was not equivalent to how the game was played. and i cant blame texas coach for getting upset. refs were not that great and made some bad calls towards texas which ended up finishing them. great game though! both squads will be battling for the south! and robertson cup too! well...one of them anyway! <_<

Stephen, any clue on where the robertson cup is being help this year? change in format?

I watched it:
thru 59 minutes...9 minors Topeka
9 minors Texas
Topeka 2 for 5 on pp
Texas 2 for 5 on pp
5 on 5 Topeka 3
Texas 0
at 59 min. matching delays...+ 14 min spearing Texas,
Topeka 0 for 1 on pp

at 60 min. game over...Texas 4 X 10 abuse of officials changed to Texas 1 x 10 spearing + 3 x 10 abuse of officials

What i saw and my opinion: shots: Texas
scoring chances: Topeka
4 pp goals were Texas 1st 2 pp goals
Topeka last 2 pp goals and frustration for Texas

...Stephen, I have a different take on it...after what i see overall is: the officiating does a good job of it, and time in the box, game ejections and game suspensions that come with what the penalty is, is just that...and when the league (leagues) is sent film for review, they do a good job of upholding or reversing a suspension...
...and that comes from watching Juniors for the 5th year now with around 300 games live or "pay per view"...and watching 10 years of youth AAA on back to before there was Mite IP...going up through USAH level 3 coaching...and being suspended twice and fined $50 each in adult "ankle bender" leagues (how pathetic is that!)
...on that note, no, my mind (whats left of it) is more concerned about what happens in the stands during some Junior games...(must say no view or knowledge during said Topeka vs Texas game)
...USAH has done a great job and continues education (although it took a tragedy in the early 2000s to get it in full swing) at the youth levels...
...but that education can't be carried over to a slimeball that buys a ticket (instead of "tweaking") for a game...
...i myself, have no problem with even extremely fanatic fans...but the "line" is crossed with hanging on and over the glass, spitting on the glass and calling teenage Hockey players every totally vile name in the book with drooling mouths pressed in between the sections...
...security, ushers, or whoever...you may not be interested in the game but do whats right...your presence after the game is there, how about making it during the game and do something about the above when you see it...
...and visiting and home Hockey fans, if you cant find security, try at the food courts or around the doors...
...leave it on the ice, the players do

It will be interesting to see if Franky hands out suspensions for this mess. He has been handing suspensions out like Halloween candy in the NA3, many of which have been ridiculous. Kid got a 6 game rip for an obscene gesture. Another 6 gamer handed out to a player for intent to injure, where the alleged injured player lined up for the next face off. I get it, different leagues, but the same Joker in charge.

If he doesn't suspend the Texas people, he has lost all credibility and will open the door for the NA3 to question his decision making.

Eric,
Are the suspensions in the NA3HL made public?

Frankenfeld has a history of turning a blind eye to anything remotely related to his pal Curtale. But if he has been hard on the NA3HL, he needs to maintain the same standards at the NAHL.

...will say that generaly (from what ive seen) the suspensions for fighting have eased back...at the Showcase and into week 2, i saw some instigator with ejection and game suspensions given throughout just about automaticly...looks like now, all fights still broken up (now what do you all think?) helmets on (now what do you all think?) and 5 minute matchings...
...as far as abuse of official penalties on Coaches goes, 100s could be given out each week coast to coast in all leagues of all ages if given "automaticly"...so its so up to the training, tolerence and discretion of the official and their communication with the leagues...
...they are down "right in there"

Stephen, did Curtale brake your skate board or something. I've heard of carrying a grudge, but ......wow.

I stopped trying to decypher Poulsen's gibberish some time ago, but I imagine he's about as biased as Candy Crowley at a presidential debate. Let me be the first to offer five bucks towards a writing class.

It sounds like Mr. Hughes actually watched the game.

Did no one else watch the referees allow the Topeka team to remain on the ice while the Texas team tried to give their salute to their fans? None of us have first hand knowledge of what was said, but you can bet it was colorful. It seems to me that had the refs moved Topeka off the ice, this whole mess could have been avoided. I won't defend Curtale for what happened after the refs screwed the pooch, but first blame needs to be placed on the refs shoulders. Human or not, they were wrong.

Stephen,

Where's the grudge???? Come on man, you totally ignored the "obvious" fact that there was a two way skirmish at the entrance to the tunnel. I paid attention to your athletic pedigee and obviously you know that there are rarely innocent participants in scenes like we saw on Saturday. You cannot logically make that ruling based on that video unless you bring baggage to the argument. Smells like a grudge.

Grudge? No. I wish Tony would remain on his best behavior. Heck, we featured his change of attitude not too long ago.

The guys that had the absolute best knowledge of what was taking place are the same guys that issued the three Abuse of Official penalties.

The score sheet clearly displayed what the officials were first hand witnesses to.

The question is this... will the game officials be punished for the incident or will Tony?

My money is on the officials getting punished and that is seriously screwed up.

Tony has an excuse for all of his antics and there is always somebody else to blame.

So tell me Bill... would you feel safe if Tony had a loaded gun in his hand while your son was playing for an opposing team? Based on his history of not having the ability to control his temper, there is no way in hell my kid is going anywhere near him.

If you watched the game you clearly saw a spearing penalty near the 18:40 mark of the period. The call was not made by the referee but actually by a linesman after a Tornado player targeted a RoadRunner player in the "sensitive location" of the mid-section. I would say the referees did their job on that part. If you watch the clip closely, luckily a linesman was able to close the bench door before all 20 Tornado players raced down the tunnel to break up the RoadRunners win song. That really could have gotten out of hand. Not to mention the countless spears thrown from Tornado players from the ice leaning into the tunnel. Tornado hockey at its finest, THEY'RE BACK!

I dont mean to take sides with the defense of the Tornado on this one, but it didn't seem right to me that Topeka showed no class not allowing the tornado to salute their fans after the game. Tempers were high.. something was going to breakout but seriously.. nothing even came from this game! no one was hurt, the tornado didnt jump anyone..they were yelling, screaming and waving sticks in the air. No one slashed anyones face off. Its the game of hockey! haha. Maybe a game suspension, maybe two just to give a fair warning that it isnt right but in the end, its just a good rivalry and we all live for this stuff! i love the south!!

No doubt..Tornado-Runners-Bulls games are certainly must-see's this year.

It is funny that the coach that leads the free world in Abuse of Officials penalties can't understand just why he does not get some calls. Does Curtale think that these guys don't talk to each other? Heck, I would not be surprised if there was a pre-game cheer in the officials locker room that goes something like this, on three "**** Tony Curtale!"

Yep, He's Back

Maybe, but you get the point. If a guy can't control his temper, he can't control his temper. If he pulled the trigger or just cusses out a referee, the character issue is the same.

Well Texas , Topeka and Amarillo all play what i called big boy hockey. When these three teams play each other things get amped up several notches. If Topeka is doing their victory cheer that close to the ice in the other teams rink after a hard fought game that isn't smart. When Texas beat Corpus in Corpus they did their cheer too... in their locker room. Now we in Corpus have had the pleasure of this ref a few times and , let me put it this way , he is still finding his way.I have seen Curtale and Texas several times now and except "that" game they haven't been bad .Heck Bloomingburg was the animated guy when they were here.As for suspensions for chirping officials I don't think so unless there is a threat like pulling a gun...geez.

Just asking a question here. There are what 64 regular season games. It kinda sounds like to hear you tell it Curtale lifts off every game. How many games out of 64 does Curtale "loses it"? And what were the circumstances? Personally I like a coach that is passionate and sticks up for his team.True , coaches like this are always close to crossing the line and should be reigned in when they do.I have learned when misconducts are handed out at the end of the game like this the person who has the biggest imput if a player or coach should be suspended rests with what the ref and his crew say about it.I say that because we used to have a coach here that I wondered why he wasn't suspended or tossed sometimes.A lot of weight is put into the refs report of the incident.Just sayin.

Geez Stephen, the more you carry on about Curtale the more it makes me think there is more to it. He stole your marbles? Girlfriend?

Look, there was a two sided skirmish after a heated athletic battle. The ref, as has been identified by others in this thread, did a less than stellar job calling the game which lead to some bad blood. This was game two of a two game set. Add a to it, the first loss for Texas and you have the recipe for something bad. Now unless Curtale called the guy an obama supporter or, God forbid, a democrat, I guaruntee the ref has heard it all before. THIS IS NOT A CRIMINAL CASE.

I am new to junior hockey and fairly new to hockey as a whole, but come on, I've seen worse at a Pop Warner football game. To condemn Curtale as an evil doer and of questionable character over this and his past transgressions, unless they involve bank robbery, seems a little over the top.

You are certainly welcome to your opinion.

He took you lunch money, right?
