Jared McCann also chipped in with his second OHL goal.
It was a homecoming for Chris Buonomo, who made his Greyhounds' debut as he registered an assist for his new team. The Sault Ste. Marie-born defenseman was acquired from the Barrie Colts for a fourth round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. Buonomo will be entering his fifth year in the OHL.
Spirit Captain Vincent Trocheck led his team with two goals and an assist, while Jimmy Lodge, Grant Webermin and Carlos Amestoy found the net for the visitors.
In a rematch of third-round netminders in from June's NHL Draft, Matt Murray (Pittsburgh Penguins) stopped 39 shots and is tied with the Generals' Daniel Altshuller for the OHL lead with four wins. Opposing Murray was Jake Paterson (Detroit Red Wings), who stopped 21 shots in the loss.
The next time these two teams will face each other is Wednesday, November 21 in Sault Ste. Marie.
