Prospect Preview: Jordan Fransoo - Junior Hockey News

If you are a fan of the Ottawa Senators, then you can see that there is a relationship starting with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. In the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Senators general manager Bryan Murray selected right wing Mark Stone from those same Wheat Kings.
In last years Entry Draft, Murray once again went to the Wheat Kings and grabbed Saskatchewan native Jordan Fransoo with the 186th overall selection.
Fransoo, a defenseman, was traded mid-season to the Victoria Royals and will return to Victoria and continue to improve his game.
In 136 games, Fransoo has nine goals and 30 assists and is a plus-2. As his numbers indicated, Fransoo is considered to be a defensive-minded defenseman.
This is a quality pick for Ottawa, as they have a solid stable of defenseman in their system. However, I always say, you can never have too many defenseman. In addition, this plethora of defenders will give Jordan plenty of time to develop.
What the Ottawa scouting staff like about Fransoo is his overall compete level. Senators head coach Paul MacLean will love his desire and his work ethic on defense, because that is an area the Senators must improve in.
A rather unheard of player, Fransoo will get his opportunity to make some noise when he does eventually turn pro. He could work on improving his work in the offense category. However, this was a safe pick by the Senators and a couple of years down the road, they could reap the benefits of this seventh round pick.
In the next Prospect Preview, we will talk about Winnipeg Jets prospect Scott Kosmachuk.
