Minnesota Junior Hockey League's Crusaders announce new Head Coach for 2012-13 Season - Junior Hockey News

The Hudson Crusaders are pleased to announce Shane Wagner as Head Coach for the 2012-13 season.

Wagner, a 2000 graduate of Stillwater High School played for the Ponies from 1998 to 2000. After high school Shane joined the American West Hockey League (AWHL) and played for the Butte Irish for two years. He came back to Minnesota to attend Hamline University where he was a two-time captain and two-time all-conference selection. He graduated from Hamline with a degree in Physics. 

His passion for hockey continued for the next six years. Shane played in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) for the Jacksonville Barracudas from 2006 to 2008. Shane also played for the Twin City Cyclones and Mississippi Surge of the SPHL.  He ended his playing career with the Surge as a two-time captain. In his final professional season he helped the Surge to regular season and playoff championships.

Shane is currently the Hockey Director at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center and has over 13 years of coaching experience. He has worked for various camps which include Turcotte Hockey, Andre' Beaulieu Hockey School, Minnesota Pro Development Hockey, Wagner Hockey Academy, Diane Ness Skating School and Exceed Hockey. 

The Crusaders are also pleased to announce Scott Meyer as General Manager, Pete Talafous as Director of Player Development, and Ben Weiand as assistant coach.

Scott Meyer comes to the Crusaders with 8 years of Junior A experience. Scott has served as an assistant coach and goalie coach for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. During his time in Cedar Rapids, Meyer helped the RoughRiders to their first Anderson and Clark Cup Championship during the 2004-2005 season. He was also named the USHL All-Star Associate Head Coach in 2005. Meyer currently serves as the RoughRiders goalie coach and Minnesota scout.

The St. Paul, Minnesota native played professionally in the New York Ranger system from 2001-2004. He was an ECHL All-Star in 2002 and the AHL Hartford WolfPack playoff MVP in 2002.

At the collegiate level, Scott was a Division I All-American goaltender at St. Cloud State University, helping the Huskies to their first WCHA Playoff Championship in 2001. Meyer was a 2 time All-WCHA team member as well as the Student Athlete of the Year at SCSU in 2001.

Scott has coached in the USHL, MN High School Elite League, MN High School, and multiple camps and clinics.

Pete Talafous served as the Director of Hockey Operations at Total Hockey-Hudson prior to working with Exceed Hockey. The Hudson, Wisconsin native has been working as Site Director for the past 7 years.

Pete's playing career includes playing for the Hudson Raiders High School team where he holds the all-time record for points in Hudson HS history. He then played Junior A Hockey (USHL) for the St. Paul Vulcans and was a member of the 2000 National Championship team. Pete played Division 1 hockey in the WCHA for the University of Alaska-Anchorage (1 year) and the University of Wisconsin (3 years). At UAA, he was awarded Rookie of the Year honors.

Ben Weiand graduated from Rosemount high-school in 2009. He attended college at UW-Stout and has been coaching since 2007, most recently working for Exceed Hockey in Hudson.

The Crusaders first game is on Saturday, September 8th at the Maple Grove Community Center at 7pm against the Maple Grove Energy. The Crusaders have their home opener on Friday, September 14th at the Hudson Civic Center at 7:10pm against the Steele County Blades. Here's the full schedule!
