The countdown to the start of the 2012-2013 season is now down to single digits and a number of teams are on the brink of disaster. Leagues are trying to stop the gaping wounds with sticktape and a prayer. Folks, the floodgate of pay-to-play customers are not opening anytime soon.

Midwest Junior Hockey League
Patrick Pylypuik has resigned as the commissioner while the Ironwood Bears, Kankakee Kingfish, Traverse City Cohos, Erie Blizzard, Lake Erie Steelheads, and Cincinnati Stache have ceased operations. This is very bad news for the new Amateur Athletic Union league. Will there be more teams fall by the wayside? That remains to be seen. Meanwhile Pylypuik has taken over the coaching duties of the Northwest Ohio Grrrowl

Tropical Elite Hockey League
The Florida Pharaohs were previously announced as a TEHL team playing in Kissimmee. Daytona Beach owner/GM/head coach Mike Chighisola, who has also taken on the role of league communications director, told us Sunday that the team has been moved to become the Miami Sea Devils.

Despite that revelation, the team still appears as one of the TEHL teams listed on the seldom updated league website. The center of league public information continues to be Facebook.

The league is making an accusation (again via Facebook) that I am actively trying to move their players to other programs. Let's make this statement perfectly clear, so far I've talked with 34 players that have called asking questions. My suggestion to them has been to get a good back-up plan if they are not happy with what they see in Florida. There are far more established teams, with reputable coaches, with open roster spots.

Minnesota Junior Hockey League
A family feud between Hudson Crusaders owner Harry Urschel and his son, and head coach, Ted Urschel has crippled the team. Other teams in the league have made multi-player trade offers to help them only to have the elder Urschel veto the moves.

With the opener less than a week away, the Minnesota Junior Hockey League is being forced to skim players from the rosters of other teams to help give the Crusaders a full bench. How long can that go on? Sources are also reporting that the Crusaders owner has resigned from his position as league vice president and has been shopping his team to the North American Tier 3 Hockey League. In a move to block the NA3HL, the MnJHL is trying to install a new owner in Hudson that may still try and move the team to the NA3HL for 2013-2014.

The other teams mentioned as potential retraction candidates, the Central Wisconsin Saints, Tri-City Ice Hawks, and St. Louis Frontenacs, all appear to have just enough players to fill three lines and will start the season. Many teams are hoping to fill the roster with NAHL cuts and players from the contracted teams.

North American Tier 3 Hockey League
The Battle Creek Revolution have replaced the Indianapolis Inferno as the worst team in junior hockey so it is no wonder that the team is having a difficult time filling the roster. If the team is able to play at all, the season promises to be even worse than the previous two, something I thought would be impossible to accomplish.

Harry Urschel says:
Well, rumors are one thing, the truth is something totally different.

"A family feud between Hudson Crusaders owner Harry Urschel and his son, and head coach, Ted Urschel has crippled the team." FALSE

"Other teams in the league have made multi-player trade offers to help them only to have the elder Urschel veto the moves." FALSE

"With the opener less than a week away, the Minnesota Junior Hockey League is being forced to skim players from the rosters of other teams to help give the Crusaders a full bench." FALSE- The Lights, Ice Hawks and Energy have agreed to trade players to the Crusaders.

"Sources are also reporting that the Crusaders owner has resigned from his position as league vice president and has been shopping his team to the North American Tier 3 Hockey League. In a move to block the NA3HL, the MnJHL is trying to install a new owner in Hudson that may still try and move the team to the NA3HL for 2013-2014." MOSTLY FALSE- I have resigned, have not spoken to anyone about moving to NA3HL, not a friend of Frankenfeld, there is a player on the Crusaders roster whose father owns a NAHL team, I am transitioning team ownership to a party associated with the program over a period of time.

Can't comment on other teams. All sixteen will operate in 2012-13.

A simple phone call would have put all this to bed. Whoever gave you half truths and pure falsehoods obviously has an agenda to hurt the MnJHL and the Crusaders.

Harry,
You are kidding me right?

**"A family feud between Hudson Crusaders owner Harry Urschel and his son, and head coach, Ted Urschel has crippled the team." FALSE**
Which part is false? Are you saying that there has not been issues between your son and you or are you saying that the situation has had no effect on the team?

**"Other teams in the league have made multi-player trade offers to help them only to have the elder Urschel veto the moves." FALSE**
I was told, by a Minnesota source, that another team in the league offered five players for one of yours...and you nixed the deal.

**"With the opener less than a week away, the Minnesota Junior Hockey League is being forced to skim players from the rosters of other teams to help give the Crusaders a full bench." FALSE- The Lights, Ice Hawks and Energy have agreed to trade players to the Crusaders.**
Trade, skim, or swap. Whatever it is, you are in need of help from other MnJHL teams in order to play.

Come on Harry, who are you kidding? You may not be a fan of Mark Frankenfeld but you are a bigger fan of yourself. If Craig Patrick were to write the check today, you would have to take the money, regardless of the fact that Patrick would put the team into the NA3HL next season.

Speaking of money, how in the heck do you plan on getting through the entire season? The MnJHL would be MUCH better off simply cutting their losses, dispersing your players, and modifying the schedule.

But that's just my opinion.

No feud. We both agree transitioning at this time is best for the players. No feud prior to the decision. We both spent much time recruiting. Sadly, we lost our best scout when he was signed by another league as coach for a hefty salary and took 9-10 players with him that we counted on.

Please post your source as there are 15 teams that would like to know who that is. For the record, the team offered five players who were no longer with their team and had signed with other teams in different leagues. The offer was in truth, zero players for one player. The MnJHL made a decision on Aug 4 to compensate the Crusaders with two players for the one player. Still waiting on those players.

"Trade, skim, or swap. Whatever it is, you are in need of help from other MnJHL teams in order to play."

We are still looking for five players to fill out our roster, we can play without them and we will on Sept 8. Your blog has been helpful in a round-about way. Former coaches are contacting us to offer players. It's nice to have friends who care, as opposed to your source who only wishes to destroy.

I have never talked to Craig Patrick. I only hear the rumors that you do. I am transitioning the team without any profit. Some people, believe it or not, care more about the players, the league and the fiends they've made in the business than making money. I didn't run a team for the money, never drew a salary, and am proud of the forty-plus players we've advanced. Many of them return to our camps every summer. So you're wrong, I wouldn't take the money.

"Speaking of money, how in the heck do you plan on getting through the entire season? The MnJHL would be MUCH better off simply cutting their losses, dispersing your players, and modifying the schedule."

With all the calls I'm getting, it looks like the team will continue to be financially viable. Ted and I will not be part of it, we will help the transition however long it takes, but the Crusader brand will continue.

I appreciate you have an opinion. You do some good with your site. However, in the Crusaders case, a simple phone call would have made a lot of difference.

And your source- SHAME. What is his agenda? It's not to promote the MnJHL.

Finally, thanks to all my friends for their support.

I don't mean to go off-topic, but I just wanted to get your insight on the NAHL North Stephen.

Who is your pick to win the division? Who will be the worst?
