Sometimes change can be a good thing . . . a very good
thing in the case of Vancouver.
This came (very) recently in the shape of a new owners, new head coach, general
manager, and yet another identity change. Three names in 3 years. The Jags
became the Victory, and now, the Victory becomes the Vipers.
The
new owners (which was passed by a vote of 5-0 by the other owners in NORPAC on
August 29th) are Keith Bemis and Bob Knoerl. Keith will also take over being
the new bench boss for the Vipers for the upcoming season.
The
general manager position will be filled as soon as possible. Last
year the Victory started the season with a new owner, new identity, and new
coaching staff. John Nogatch was named the new head coach but, was replaced
early on by Dave Petrino and this led to some confusion on the ice as both
coaches had different coaching styles and philosophies.
The
Victory (17-21-3) made the 2011/2012 playoffs and beat Eugene in the first round (2-1) and then ran
into a hot Seattle Totem team and got swept (3-0) in the second round.
We
have known Coach Bemis for many years and this we know; passion and commitment
is a main stay for the game of hockey. Whether during his playing days or
running the bench, Keith will not only push himself, but every one of his players
to find the best they have.
The
Vipers will play out of Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver, Washington this coming season. What an amazing part of the Pacific Northwest with Mt.
Hood standing tall about an hour to
the east and the Pacific Ocean a short drive
to the west.
If
you are interested in playing Junior A hockey then this is your chance. Contact
Coach Bemis at: kbeemer29@aol.com The
Vipers are still currently looking for players (all positions) for the
2012/2013 season.
Seattle
and Southern Oregon left NORPAC to play in the
WSHL. So, a new regular season and league champion will be crowned this
season.
