With 3 games under their belt, the young men of the QMJHL
are starting to get the ball rolling on another exciting season. In Rimouski the Oceanic's 17 year old rookie Goaltender Philippe Derosiers is turning heads
and setting himself apart from the pack.
It would appear that Derosiers is well on his way to securing a starting spot as the Oceanic goalie this season. After 3 regular season games the newcomer has posted a league high .944 save percentage.
Although early in the season, it is a good sign the 17 year old has the attention of both his coach Serge Beausoleil and GM Philippe Boucher. Coach Beausoleil has 5 goalies listed on his roster, 4 of them rookies. Derosiers impressed in preseason and has the hot hand for the Oceanic 2012 debut. Listed at 6'1 187 lbs, Derosiers is the tallest and seemingly most athletic goalie listed on the depth chart.
Last season the Oceanic had a good run into the playoffs on the shoulders of left-hander Carl Hozjan starting between the pipes. Derosiers only saw action in 3 games last season posting a 1-2 record, he appears to be poised to seize and hold the starting spot this season.
Looking to make an impact on his squad raising his save percentage already from .899 to .944 after his first two starts this season, Derosiers and the Oceanic are off to a solid start winning their first 3 in a row.
Making it a bit less hectic in front of the net for Derosiers, Defensemen Samuel Morin has posted a +4 with a goal after 3 games and is off to a fantastic start to his season. Watch the Oceanic take the ice against Victoriaville 7:30 Friday 8-31 at Arena GH Vermette St. Agapit.
