For the first time since March, the Windsor Spitfires' were back on the ice at the WFCU Centre on Tuesday as they prepare for the 2012-13 season.
Many players are returning from last season while recent draftees and free agent invitees are vying for a spot on the club. The team held a morning and afternoon scrimmage game that was open to the public.
On the day, Jared Leslie scored three goals, Josh Ho-Sang netted two goals and an assist and Jordan Luciw added a goal and an assist.
In the morning scrimmage, Team White beat Team Blue 5-3 with Luciw leading the way with a goal and an assist. Luciw, who spent the 2011-12 campaign with the Windsor Major Midgets' squad, is competing for a spot on the OHL club.
Team White also got goals from Jordan Maletta, Michael Clarke, Chris Cobham and Tim Perks while Dalen Kuchmey made 29 saves for the win.
Team Blue got goals from Ho-Sang, Leslie and Nick Czinder. Jordan DeKort stopped 30 shots in the loss.
In the afternoon scrimmage, Ho-Sang led Team Blue with a goal and an assist and Leslie added two goals in a 4-2 win over Team Red. Ho-Sang, who spent last season with the GTHL's Toronto Marlboros, was the fifth overall pick in this past April's OHL Priority Draft. The explosive forward will be given every opportunity to be a top six-forward in his rookie year.
Leslie, who played for the Sun County Panthers, was the Spitfires' 11th round pick in April's OHL Priority Selection.
Brandon Devlin netted the other goal for Team Blue and Robert Kopytek-MacKenzie made 26 saves to earn the win. Team Red got goals from Vladimir Ionin and Kerby Rychel. Jarslav Pavelka stopped 32 shots in a losing cause.
The team will be back on the ice Wednesday as they do it all over again.
