Barrie Colts' forward Tanner Pearson got an early birthday present from the team that drafted him in this past June's NHL Draft. He responded by signing a three-year entry level contract with the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.
Pearson, who turns 20 on August 10, was taken by the Kings 30th overall in the first round after being bypassed in the previous two drafts. The Kitchener, Ontario native's stock soared in 2011-12 where he finished third in OHL scoring with 37 goals and 54 assists for 91 points in 60 games and was tied for the team lead in plus/minus with a rating of +21. Pearson's play last season earned him a spot on the OHL Second All-Star Team.
Pearson represented his country as he played for the bronze-medal winning Team Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship and finished with a goal and five assists in six games. Pearson also represented Team OHL in the Subway Super Series last November where he registered two goals in two games against the Russian National Junior Team.
