Today we will look at how the NAHL West peformed at the showcase last season.
Fairbanks Ice Dogs
The Ice Dogs started the showcase on the 14th aganist the Minot Minotarous where they put out a very fast paced game and won 4-3.
They then played the Springfield Blues on the 15th where they didnt show much dicipline being that they had 7 penaltys but lucky for them Springfields powerplay didnt show up and the Blues went zero for seven on the powerplay. Even with the penalties the Ice Dogs managed a 5-2 win.
The next game they played the St. Louis Bandits on the 16th where both teams skated hard and took the game in shootout where the Ice Dogs managed to make all 4 of their shots and won 5-4.
The last game of the showcase, on the 17th, was against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons where they skated hard and took the game into shootout and managed to make two out of their five shots and won 4-3.
Fresno Monsters
The Monsters started the showcase on the 14th of September aganist the Topeka Roadrunners where Topeka played a very undisiplined game and Fresno took advantage of it by scoring three out of their four goals on the powerplay and won the game 4-2.
They then played the Austin Bruins on the 15th and things got very chippy and Fresno took 8 penalties including 2 game ejections but still the Monsters took a 4-1 victory.
The Monsters then played the Coulee Region Chill on the 16th and won 5-4 despite a late attempt at a come back by the Chill in which they scored 2 goals to bring them within one but could not notch the last goal.
In the last game of the showcase they played the New Mexico Mustangs on the 17th and won 4-3 in a very back and forth game with the Mustangs coming within one but not being able to notch the game tying goal, therefor giving Fresno the showcase sweep.
Kenai River Brown Bears
The Brown Bears started the showcase against the Aberdeen Wings on Septmeber 14th where they won 5-2 despite the powerplay being off for the night and not scoring once on 7 powerplay oppurtunities.
On the 14th they played the Wichita Falls WIldcats where they struck quick scoring 2:24 into the first and then notching the game winner in the second to topple the Wildcats 2-1.
They then played the Alexandria Blizzardon the 15th and won 5-1 in a chippy game with penalties totaling 56 minutes.
The Brown Bears then took on the Janesville Jets in the last game of the showcase on the 17th and took a dissapointing 4-2 loss with Kenai River continuing their powerplay troubles and going 0 for 6.
Overall the West performed well at the showcase putting up an overall record of 12-3-1. We will see soon if the West can put up another similar performance at this years showcase.
