Today We talked with last season's Fresno Monsters goalie Tomas Sholl. The young goaltender from Hermosa Beach, CA. was selected by the Fargo Force in the 2nd Round of this year's United States Hockey League Entry Draft, had an incredible year last season with the Monsters posting a 20-14-6 record. Sholl, turning 18 years-old this month, is committed to Bowling Green, the Falcons are joining the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2013-2014. 2012-2013 is the final season of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
DG: So Tomas what are you doing on your off-season?
TS: I work at my local ice rink, help out with hockey camps, skate, workout and relax with family and friends
DG: Where did you play before Fresno and what was the difference in the level of play?
TS: I played for the Jr Kings 16AAA and the main differences was the speed of play and the harder schedule
DG: What is your favorite thing about playing in Fresno?
TS: I loved my teammates and coaches! The fans were awesome too and I had a great billet family!
DG: What's it like committing to college at such a young age and then getting drafted for the USHL?
TS: Its a dream come true, I always wanted to play College hockey and now I have that opportunity I cant wait to do it. It was a big honor to get drafted in the USHL as well, its a great league and a lot of great players have gone through there.
DG: What is your favorite activity besides hockey?
TS: I like to read, I'm a big Ernest Hemingway fan and I love movies
DG: Why did you choose Fresno over all the other teams in the league?
TS: Fresno was close to home, the coaches believed in me and I had a great opportunity to play there.
DG: What is it like playing away from home?
TS: Its difficult to say goodbye to the ones you care about but when you are playing or with your team mates it makes it much easier to deal with the stress of being away.
DG: What team will you be playing for next season?
TS: Well I have a final tryout camp for the Fargo Force next week and if all goes well I'll be playing for them and if not I'll return to Fresno
DG: What are your post Junior goals?
TS: I want to have a successful college career, get my degree and if possible I want to pursue a professional career.
DG: What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?
TS: I'm excited about the possibility of something new and the chance to showcase my abilities and develop into a better player!
