One of the greatest quotes of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky spoke on the need for hockey players to be aware of the court at all times. He said that a great hockey player was not someone who knew where the puck was on the rink. Instead, a great hockey player was someone who could play where the puck was going to be on the rink.

Through this paraphrased quote, we can see that a great hockey player is not someone who is the most skilled or has the best equipment. Instead, a great hockey player is someone who plays with heart, passion and style on the court. Here are the top ways that you can become a great hockey player who has mastered his or her own approach to the game of hockey:

Anticipate at All Times

You should always be trying to predict where the game is going to go. Try to see where the defense is going at all times. By doing this, you are able to make your own shots and may be able to score for your team. When you are aware of everything that is happening on the court, you are able to take calculated risks that may benefit your team.

You should pay attention to the role of each player on the other team. If you are able to notice the strengths and weaknesses of every player, then you can also use this knowledge to your benefit.

Play with Intensity

Even if you do not have the puck, you should make sure that you play with intensity at all times during the game. You want to make sure that you are playing tough defense for your team. This means that you make sure that the strongest players are covered at all times.

Stay Dedicated to Conditioning

As the season progresses for your community hockey team, you will likely focus less on conditioning. Your coach will likely want to go over plays that will prepare you for competitions with other teams. During these points in the season, stay dedicated to conditioning.

If you are not committed to conditioning, then you will lose the agility and strength that you have built up in the previous months. It is essential to do whatever you can to stay a powerful player on the rink.

When you stay committed to working hard every day for your hockey team, you are able to become an exceptional hockey player. These tips will help you be the best player that you can be.
