The Liam Herbst era in London has been delayed for at least eight weeks as the Knights' goalie of the future underwent surgery last week in London to repair cartilage damage in both his knees and will miss his first training camp with the OHL club.
Chances of 2012 OHL Player of the Year Michael Houser returning are very slim, which leaves the team with Tyson Teichmann and Jake Patterson on the team's goaltending chart. The Knights could make a pitch for another puckstopper.
This isn't the first time that the Etobicoke, Ontario native has had lower body issues as he suffered some knee swelling before the start of last season with the Misissauga Rebels of the GTHL. Herbst is currently undergoing rehab and should be ready to go by the end of September.
The 1996-born goaltender was taken with the 22nd pick in the first round of this past April's Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. Herbst backstopped the Rebels to the 2012 OHL Cup with a 2-1 overtime win and was named MVP of the final game against the Toronto Marlboros.
Other OHL News: Anna Ftorek, daughter of Erie Otters' head coach, Robbie Ftorek, passed away last Saturday. She was only 23 years of age. Anna is survived by her parents, Robbie and Wendy and siblings Sam, Casey and Lucie. Yesterday, a service took place at "The Lake" in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Condolences to the Ftorek Family.
