Each year, NHL Central Scouting releases its top 36 prospects for teams to get an early start on who to scout for next summers draft. The list of the top 36 is considered the , "A list" prospects. While the list certainly changes between now and next June's draft, it is promising to see 5 USHL'ers on the initial prospect list.
They are, defenseman Ian McCoshen of the Waterloo Blackhawks, defenseman Michael Downing of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, and forwards Luke Johnson of the Lincoln Stars, J.T Compher of Team USA, and Ross Olsson.
Olsson spent last season in high school and will play for the Lincoln Stars after being selected by them in the USHL entry draft this past year. Olsson was also the only prospect on the list who spent last season playing at the high school hockey level.
With a record of 28 USHL'ers drafted in the 2012 NHL entry draft, the USHL looks to steal even more spotlight from the Canadian junior leagues! For the full list, please see NHL.com
