Do you consider yourself a planner? I ask this relatively easy question as bait.
Most of the people I know say they plan for certain things but not others. It's easy to plan a grocery list, isn't it? Seldom do I come home from the grocery store with all, or even just the items on my list. What about a vacation? I have yet to take a vacation that goes "as planned."
So why then would most of the junior leagues in my region promulgate their schedules for the upcoming season, all within a week of each other? Are they checking to see if my brain will go into overload? Is it a practical joke amongst the schedulers?
I don't believe it's fair to generate that much pressure on the average hockey buff or those in the biz. We need to process, compare, scrutinize and even develop a plan of attack. Considerations like travel, budget, accommodations and oh yeah - who to watch -all have to be looked at.
Planning is certainly something I spend a lot of time doing. My magical scouting software helps me set up my schedule, but I still work (and re-work) the plan. Then I try to guess what might pop-up or change during the season. Trades, bad weather and recommendations from fans may steer me to a different game.
I consider myself a planning guesser who, in the end, just rolls with it! As long as I get to the rinks.
