Trades and Signings Around the OHL - Junior Hockey News

The Peterborough Petes traded forward Matt Puempel to the Kitchener Rangers for Zach Lorentz and the team's second round picks in the 2014 and 2016 OHL Priority Selection. Puempel last played on January 4 when he suffered a concussion when got checked in the head by Kingston Frontenacs' defenseman, Alex Gudbranson. In his injury-shortened season of 2011-12, Puempel scored 17 goals and added 16 assists with 31 penalty minutes in 30 games for the Petes. In his three OHL seasons with the Petes, Puempel scored 84 goals and 82 assists with 123 penalty minutes in 144 games. Puempel was the 24th overall selection by the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Draft. Lorentz scored 19 goals and added 14 assists in 66 games for the Rangers last season.
The Plymouth Whalers acquired defenseman Connor Carrick from the Guelph Storm for a sixth round draft pick in next year's OHL Priority Selection.Carrick, who is listed at 5'10", 191 lbs, was Guelph's 11th round pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection, has played the last two seasons with the US National Team Development Program (US NTDP) of the United States Hockey League (USHL). In 2011-12, Carrick scored eight goals and 13 assists in 57 games. Carrick, who originally commit to the University of Michigan, was selected in the fifth round (137th overall) by the Washington Capitals in last weekend's NHL Draft. The Orland, Illinois native will take part in the USA Hockey National Jr. Evaluation Camp which will be held in Lake Placid, New York from August 4-11.
Mark Hunter, General Manager of the London Knights, announced that the team has acquired forwards Michael McCarron and Adam Restoule in seperate deals with the Belleville Bulls and Sudbury Wolves, respectively. McCarron, a power forward at 6'5", 225 lbs, was acquired for a fifth round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection and conditional picks. The native of Macomb, Michigan, who will bypass Michigan State University for the "O", posted 17 points and 135 penalty minutes in 35 games for the US NTDP last season. Restoule, listed at 6'2", 190 lbs, split his time in the "O" between Plymouth and Sudbury in 2011-12 where he registered two assists and 37 penatly minutes in 20 games.
The Barrie Colts acquired Dylan Corson from the Belleville Bulls for a third round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. Last season, Corson scored two goals with eight assists and 83 penalty minutes in 67 games for the Colts.
The Kingston Frontenacs signed free agent overage goaltender Mike Morrison to a contract with the OHL club. Last season, Morrison posted a 10-19-5 record with a 3.87 goals against average with a .890 save percentage and one shutout for the Peterborough Petes.
The Rupert Twins, Ryan and Matt, will be reunited at the Toronto Maple Leafs' Prospect Development Camp later this summer. Ryan was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round (157th overall) at the NHL Draft last weekend while Matt received an invite from the team.

Is it fair to know for sure that McCarron is going to report to London and bypass NCAA if you don't even know which school he would be de-commiting from?
Sorry that I wasn't clear on the trade. McCarron's rights were traded and if were to play for London, he would bypass the college ranks.
If a team like the Knights are going to make a trade for rights to a player, they're going to make a serious push to get him on the team.
