NAHL Committed to Rio Grande Valley for 2012-2013 - Junior Hockey News

The Brownsville Herald is reporting that the RGV Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League are folding after nine seasons to be replaced by a currently dormant North American Hockey League team for 2012-2013.

There are currently three dormant NAHL teams, the New Mexico Mustangs, St Louis Bandits, and Dawson Creek Rage.

The report out of Brownsville also mentions that the new junior team may retain the Killer Bees name. Rumors have circulated for weeks that the NAHL's move to south Texas would include a new team in Laredo. We expect that team to be operated by the ownership of the Corpus Christi Ice Rays.

We are also likely to hear that the North Richland Hills, based Texas Brahmas are likely to become the next CHL team to fall by the wayside. North Richland Hills falls within the geographic territory of the Texas Tornado and will not be an option for the NAHL.

The NAHL's move to south Texas is essentially nothing more than a market block designed to keep the Central Hockey League's planned CH1L from setting up shop in the markets.

Nobody ever likes to hear I told you so but... JuniorHockey.com has been talking about the inevitable transition of southern minor professional teams to junior since 2009.

I am curious where your writer's get their information? you guys had made references to the demise of the Texas Brahmas many times over the last year and yet they seem to survive? Do you know something the rest of us don't?

My source in regards to the New Mex Mustangs to North Richland Hills came from within the Brahmas' organization. Now since then, Ken Dennis has become the runaway bride of the NAHL by courting a number of cities and buildings only to dash away at he last minute. Dennis told NYTEX that he was in, only to discover that the Tornado were not going to approve the move.

From what I am being told, the building owns the Brahmas name, and if the CHL team wants to move away (like dwtn Ft Worth), they would have to come up with another name.

I don't see the Brahmas playing under the current minor pro model and with the CHL becoming a big boy's club at the pro level. Over the last month and a half, we were being told that if RGV and Laredo go down, the Brahmas go with them. The third shoe should drop at any time.

Stephen, I am not sure who your so called source is inside the Brahmas organization but you might want to call Mike Barrack directly. So what your saying is that NYTEX owns the "Texas Brahmas" name? I am wondering if the owners are leaning towards folding the CHL team after the 2012/2013 season and going with 2 Jr teams. One Jr tier III WSHL team and the other being a Jr tier I {CH1L} team. Obviously both of these teams would be in the AAU instead of members of USA Hockey. What do you think?

Mike Barrack does not own NYTEX, the Brahmas name, or the bus. Many noticed what I said earlier about the NAHL going to NYTEX, it is too bad that people were too busy trying to castrate me instead of figuring out for themselves that the owner of NYTEX often writes for this site, their WSHL team advertises on this site, and I would not say ANYTHING of that nature without some type of heads up from them.

I get accused of out right lying, when all I do is report what I am being told or what I am able to dig up.

Unlike a number of others that hide behind stupid screen names, like rowdycowboyrider or whatever his name is, I do this for a living and have the sack to stand behind what I am saying while always getting great sources.

I might add that Steve digs up and writes his own material, unlike that cut-copy-and-paste con artist from "you know where." The cut-copy-and-paste con artist knows who he is. He knows what he does. So do Steve, me et al.

Stephen I wasn't attacking you and you did not answer my question? So what your saying is that the owners have given you a heads up and are telling you that the Brahmas are in the process of folding their CHL club?
