Well, the internet was down for the best part of the day and I was forced to try and jack a wifi signal from the beach bar about a mile down the sand. I can think of worse things to do than sitting on the patio all morning while trying to work. Despite the sun, surf, and occasional bikini clad woman walking along the beach, I still managed to mustered up a serious bad mood.

Let me explain.

The Deed

Trust. I have a problem with the fact that I almost always see the good in people and am a bit too fast to extend a degree of trust.

The problem is when money becomes part of the equation, that trust has often turned into a slap in the face. What is it about money that changes EVERYTHING. How is it that a deal can flip a set of friends into something else entirely.

I've consulted on a deal that has taken up a great deal of my time in the last five months, only to be treated like a jerk because the original settlement date has come and gone. I've turned in my invoice  well over a month ago, and am now being told to wait. This after being told everything would be done next week over and over again. Over the last few days I did what I do best, dig, and discovered that the folks that controlled the money did not have a clue that I was involved in the project or was owed a dime.

Don't these people know that I am not really the kind of person to try and screw with?

Tropical Elite Hockey League

Stirling Wright does not know when to quit. He is continuing his efforts to form and operate a Jim Cashman like league in Florida. Needless to say, when a hockey league is soliciting donations on Facebook, the outlook is not very positive. Stirling, you know better than to take money from a player without delivering on all of your promises.I may not be in Florida but rest assured people are watching.

Bay Area Seals

The Western States Hockey League has a new team that is bringing back a lot of old memories. The Bay Area Seals have reached back into ancient hockey history.

The San Francisco Seals were part of the old Western Hockey League in the early 60's. The California Golden Seals were one of the first six NHL expansion teams before being moved to Cleveland and eventually merged with the Minnesota North Stars which is now the Dallas Stars.

Will the WSHL Seals be able to cash in on the history of hockey in the area? I think so. They are playing in a rink that holds 1,500 and have committed to an aggressive marketing campaign that is high on providing a great entertainment experience. I look forward to getting my own Seals gear just for the cool factor.

Checkmate Hockey

Checkmate hockey and JuniorHockey.com have teamed up to drastically change the way prospects are identified and evaluated. One of the key elements is to host free evaluation events in markets around the country. The next event is scheduled for Trenton, Michigan's Kennedy Ice Arena on June 22-24. This is an excellent opportunity for junior prospects to get a fair evaluation of their abilities while being seen by participating coaches from teams across the United States and Canada. Interesting to hear about the Seals. My old man played for them for a few years. Who thinks ownership would have the gumption to bring back the white skates?
