Urbandale (IA) A pair of former Des Moines Buccaneers are readying themselves for the Stanley Cup Finals that begin Wednesday night. Los Angeles Kings' Davis Drewiske and Trevor Lewis represent the Buccaneers' first chance to have alumni hoist the sport's greatest prize since Erik Cole's Carolina Hurricanes won in 2006.
The Kings begin the best-of-seven finals at New Jersey, looking to continue a magical playoff run that has seen them advance as the eighth seed in the Western Conference with wins over Vancouver, St. Louis and Phoenix.
Playing in his second Stanley Cup playoffs, Lewis has had a strong showing. The fourth year professional has 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) while dressing for all 14 games. Lewis was a two-year member of the Buccaneers' from 2004-2006 and was a key factor in the franchise's most recent Clark Cup title in 2006.
Meanwhile, Drewiske was limited to only nine games during the regular season and hasn't suited for a game since February. Nonetheless, the 2003-2004 Buccaneer is in his fourth season with the Kings and is also a part of their Stanley Cup run.
The list of former Buccaneers' to celebrate as Stanley Cup champions is an exclusive club with Cole's 2006 victory with Carolina serving as the franchise's lone connection to the title.
