The Portland Winterhawks forced a Game 7 in their WHL Championship series against the Edmonton Oil Kings after their 3-2 triumph in Game 6 at the Rose Garden. The teams will get little rest as Game 7 will take place in mere hours. Puck drops on Sunday May 13th at 6:00 MDT.
Portland outshot Edmonton 45-32. Oliver Gabriel scored two goals, including the game-winning tally with less than three minutes remaining in the third period. A huge goal indeed, one that may have kept Portland's season alive. Mac Carruth shut the door after that, making 30 stops.
So this extremely tense and competitive series comes down to one game. Five of the six games have been decided by a single goal. Let's hope that trend continues in Game 7. The team that prevails in Game 7 will win the Western Hockey League Championship and the Ed Chynoweth Cup. Figures to be a terrific game.
