The Southern Oregon Spartans are proud to announce that Defenseman Luke Lampe has committed to play for the Spartans for the 2012-2013 season.
Lampe, who hails from Wisconsin, played the last season with the McFarland High School team. Luke is a defenseman with a large stature, standing at 6'03" tall and weighing 190lbs. Prior to playing for his High School team, Lampe suited up for the Madison Capitols AAA program.
"Although we have a fantastic group of returning players from last season, we have to replace alot of our players that moved up to the NCAA," stated Spartans coach Mike Stanaway. "I feel that Luke is going to be able to come in and contribute right away. For a player of his size, he skates extremely well and makes proper decisions when in possession of the puck. His skill, combined with his physical style of play, will enable him make an immediate impact with our hockey club."
Lampe is an individual that values being pushed and having to compete on a daily basis, which is part of the reason why he chose to skate with the Spartans in the Western States Hockey League. "Competition is what life is about, not just in sports but in education and the workforce. You have to be able to handle adversity to shape your character."
The Spartans, who won the Cascade Cup as Champions of the Northern Pacific Hockey League and finished with a record of 40-9, will be entering their first season in the WSHL.
