JuniorHockey.com today announced that Alex Fons, of the North American Hockey League's Fairbanks Ice Dogs, has been named Wall USA National Goaltender of the Week, for the period ending April 8th, for his performance during the opening weekend of the Robertson Cup play-offs.
The Minnetonka, Minnesota native stopped all 51 of the Kenai Brown Bears' shots over two games to earn a pair of shutout wins.
Fons finished the regular season with a 2.33 GAA, 21-5-4 record, and .907 SV%.
Wall U.S.A. was founded by ECHL goalie Dave "The Hurricane" Marlin. While still playing professionally, Dave discovered the love of coaching kids, and founded the Zen Marlin Goaltending Academy. This paired well with his love of travel as he was the only school teaching the Finnish Lion, a technique developed and adapted by many of the Finnish NHL goalies that we know today. Dave traveled to Finland many times over the last decade to perfect this technique and bring that understanding back to the kids in his camps. In doing so, Dave discovered that the Finns were not only on the cutting edge with their technique but they were also worlds beyond the U.S. with their protective technology. His desire to provide the best protection possible for his own students is what led him to begin importing the Wall mask. Now Dave's vision has become a reality! Now Goalies all over North America can experience the Wall. This product is hand crafted in Finland and you will feel the difference.
